[ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage

This SIA  app needs a lot of work . Ive downloaded it added some SIA , I bought some storage and now how the hell do I upload files?  I get a message saying "you need to buy storage or wait for contracts to form". How is anyone supposed to understand this cryptic message . This non-user friendliness is whats  a painful about using SIA .

How are normal users supposed to figure this usage out ? C'mon SIA at least add a Help section in the App ...or a YouTube link ,anything ..
not everyone wants  to spend hours trawling the web for answers on what these cryptic messages mean.

Can anyone from the team comment on that matter?

Would love to hear about development plans on "How to make Sia more user-friendly"

Good news !!

I got bored and poked around the wiki Hakken recommended . It seems there's a hidden way to read the logs in SIA using the keyboard sequence "Ctrl+Shift+L". This sequence brings  up the SIA  logs  (Nice touch SIA). A peek at the SIA  'consensus' log shows I was getting the following error:

 >>"synchronize.go:589: WARN: disconnecting from peer 123.456.789.123:9981 because IBD failed: block timestamp too far in future, but saved for later use"

I looked at the time set on my system  and lo-behold it was 11 hours behind the current time. I set the time correctly on the system, restarted  SIA and blam!  its synced up in less than two minutes.   My wallet is now updated, Im all synced up on the SIA blockchain and ready to store some data.


Great work SIA, but  please add the "Ctrl+Shift+L" information  to the  SIA app and a link to the wiki on the app .

This SiA is very cool, Im  uploading 450GB of data and its not even batting an eye.  So far so good.

That link in few posts above mine about using UI for renting storage is interesting. I didn't know that I can rent storage but still didn't get the whole idea so need to keep reading twice or thrice to understand well how this actually works practically. In trading Sia went well for me now this field looks more attractive.

Agree with you, the storage class will have an explosion in the next few years. Based on the demand of the network, at least for now, there will be some competitors. After all, SC is the creator,so, its future value is infinite.

Looking at the chart, looks like it was one big, long pump and dump.

Is there anything around the corner, on the roadmap, that'll make this project look serious? And get the coin back to a solid positive (non-pump-and-dump) direction?

other question if i cannot open port on my nat is this a problem if i wanna share hard disk space?

1 more question  is it possible to share a file for 1 day?  or will we pay automatically for 1 month ?

>>The default path is Drive :\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Sia-UI\sia\consensus. if you changed it im not sure SIa will know where to locate it unless theres  a config file you can use set the path to the db.

>> "Shift-Cntl-L" under  "hosts" will let you know if your host is reachable . You can manually add an NAT entry to your router.
The SAI app also prints "Host unreachable" in red  on the top of the app if  your host cant be reached.

not sure ...on this one , but seems overkill to use SIA to share a single file for a day. The  main use case I see now is for archiving large amounts of data securely.

Where did you get these information from ? I was searching last pages to see something in this sense. Can share the original source of these claims to understand fully what actually was told in that post or update. Hardly one week to reach at these dates.

Does everyone always calculate price of a coin in sats? I never know what that is because bitcoin changes all the time, why not in $?
