BAd week for me, but then what did I expect betting on Newcastle for a surprise 1-0 win? Last game tonight to make amends haha, and I have CP to take down Arsenal, also by a 1 goal margin.

Why do people say the Premier league is the best in the world when in reality England never makes it past round 1 of the World Cup?

If it was so good, they would always be in the finals.

The best league is Spain or Germany. Probably Spain. But Germany is in the top 3 for sure. Don't come at me with that Premier League #1 bullcrap. Roll Eyes

I think anyone who watches their favourite league will say it's the best. Best for me has a lot to do with entertainment as a supporter, and as someone who plays Sunday football. Perhaps for the purist, yes, I can easily understand why you'd go for Spain, Germany, Italy even France. The games are more technical. Their leagues are more open to experimentation (which, only after being recognised do they get brought to England). They breed more world class talents and have scouting systems and youth academies that are very well integrated.

I can also see why England attracts so much excitement. Leicester City two seasons ago ring any bells? Say Spain's domestic league and cups. You basically know who wins them. Because the gulf in skill and ability is too wide between the top and the rest. The same, to an extent, does apply to English teams, but the Big 4 is now the Big 6, and none of them can prevent teams like Leicester suddenly striking out from nowhere.

Amateur players like me also enjoy the physicality of English football, in fact, I feel it has toned down a lot. I loved the fiery games, the crunching tackles, the lung bursting runs.

The match between Newcastle vs Manchester City is currently underway with a temporary score 0-1 for Manchester City advantage. I'm sure the Premier League standings can keep their lead until the final whistle sounded even maybe they can increase the score if you see from the game that is dominated by them.

The score remained at 1-0 during the final whistle. Manchester City pull further ahead in the league tables. Although Manchester City had possession for most of the time (almost 80%), they missed a few chances and could have been up 3-0 at half time. Newcastle gave a good account of themselves in the second half.

More like 4 - 0.  Kevin deBruyne also hit the wood work.  It's just one of those days, you know?  The unwillingness to play + the holiday season does put a toll on some clubs, even the best ones in Europe.

But still happy overall with Pep and City.

Just 1 goal, missed a lot of chances, but the win is a win. Winning a goal was enough to remain calm at the top of the standings. And as great as any Manchester City, they remain a football club, which will not be consistent at all times. Lucky for them still can win when they get a lot of misfortune in one game.

I'm not sure if I would personally bet on it but I think Arsenal could have a tough time tonight especially with their inconsistent form recently. I could see it being 1-1 or 2-1 either way.

The unwillingness to play + the holiday season does put a toll on some clubs, even the best ones in Europe.

But still happy overall with Pep and City.

They're professional athletes getting paid millions... they should be able to handle it lol. We need entertaining over the holidays so they should earn their wages  Grin,

I was expecting City to slaughter them but even though the scoreline should have been higher it just goes to show you that they're not invincible especially when there was just ultimately one goal in the game.

Arsenal's recent winning margin is at least by 1 goal my pick is on Crystal Palace +1. Last time they won more than 2 goals in an away game is against Everton which was 2 months ago. I think this will end on a draw and both teams will continue with their streak because if West Ham could draw against Arsenal then they could do it too. I also like the under 3 goals on this match 2 units on both predictions.

first of all newcastle is defending like crazy, it seems their motivation for the game is to get a draw from manchester city. I can totally see that with their strategy defending with 10 people in their own half

Secondly, manchester city did have alot of chances but they are up against a fully defending team newcastle city which also known as the team that has solid defence so it is kinda reasonable that they win with only 1 goal

Based on Man.City latest performances where they have scored at least 2 goals in a game, and usually 4 or more I think that many people who bet on goals lost their bets and I was surprised too to see that result. I was thinking a 1-4 win for Man.City but I understand that the Premier league is long and they are having a look at the Champions too this year so they need sometime to relax and not push to 100% when they got the result they wanted, the 3 points.

Manchester City continues its incredible dominance in the Premier League!
there are, now, 15 points ahead of Manchester United. Manchester City can win the Premier League already in April or even in March!

it will be interesting the challenge for the other 3 places useful for the champions:
now there are 5 teams (United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal) in only 6 points.

Manchester City's narrow victory last night from Newcastle United in boxing day matches this season confirmed them that Manchester City is the strongest candidates to become Premier League champions this season. Distance points away from its current competitors then Manchester City can already be crowned as champion.

Arsenal's victory today was nice to see and Alexis Sanchez was the man of the match with his two goals in the second half was him at his finest.
I haven't seen him play like this for the past two seasons and was worried they were going to trade him eventually if he did not start to play and produce like his days of old. But today he has shown that they need him and he is plays a vital role in Arsenal's offensive objective in winning the matches they play.

Two losses this week but fully expected, since I backed both Crystal Palace and Newcastle for slim home victories. I know I was one of the most reluctant to concede the title to City so soon, but the combination of realities now mean that I have to give it to them:

1. 15 points ahead of their closest rival past the halfway mark. Only once has a team led at Christmas and not won the week (I wish it weren't Liverpool but oh well).
2. The other big 5 are simply incapable of stringing a result of consecutive wins. Every draw and loss seems to set them back into a slump they can't recover from.

The only straws we can clutch at from now on is the pressure of cup competitions. But I see all the other teams focusing now on CL even FA Cup or Europa. So even if City were to step off the gas a little, the others would be forced to do the same.

Exactly my opinion. City will start to lose some points here and there when Champions League starts because they have enough of a gap in Premier league to rest their players and make sure to have a good run in CL. Unfortunately it will not help the competition at all because they will all have to do some rotations in their respective squads.

Man. City has already won the league but would love to see some teams shorten the gap to let's say 5 points and make it little bit more interesting. Other top teams are now fighting for CL places.

Other top teams are now fighting for CL places.
true Man City will start losing points only after Championsleague come back but I don't think that they will get the gap down to 5 points because all the other teams play in Europe unless they get knocked out this stage Chelsea and Spurs are the one closest to end their European run this season . City is almost have the most complete team in the EPL they only needs to add one more Central Defender because of Kompany is injury prone and he is getting much older and after Liverpool getting Van Djik for a record fee City may turn for ex United defender Johnny Evans or Martinez from Sociedad.

Manchester City's narrow victory last night from Newcastle United in boxing day matches this season confirmed them that Manchester City is the strongest candidates to become Premier League champions this season. Distance points away from its current competitors then Manchester City can already be crowned as champion.
This season is surely belong to Manchester City as they are doing record breaking work and unstoppable for any team in Premier League I am also sure now no team is going to challenge them now competition is on for just fourth position as second and third is also fixed for Manchester United and Chelsea they are also doing very good for fourth position we have three tough teams any one can win

Man Utd & Chelsea are not safe in 2nd & 3rd position yet. They are only 5 & 4 points ahead of Liverpool.
It’s basically 3 CL positions available (Man City will have one) for 5 teams - Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal & Tottenham..

^ You're focused too much on Man City and fail to realize that Man United will have a packed schedule too once the CL resumes.  And oh wait, so will Chelsea and Liverpool.  Cheesy

And I do think City will be signing two more players on January.

I guess it depends what style of football you like. the premier league as a whole has a variety of different styles of teams i think largely down to the fact that so many different nationalities of players now play in the premier league. so premier league offers a clash of styles depending on who is playing who for example the very spanish style of a pep guardiola city team up against a gritty tony pulis team gives the viewer and fans a game that many other leagues cant offer so in that sense you could argue the premier league is unique and possibly superior in that sense. but in terms of technical and tactical ability i would lean more towards bundesliga or la liga. i hear the argument that premier league is the best all the time and the same people also say that as a result the england national team should do better...lets be frank the premier league isnt the strength it is due to the english talent currently playing in the league it is largely down to the high level and quantity of more technically gifted foreign players and even more crucially the very best coaches in the world. bringing youth players is proving evermore difficult too and this is another reason why i prefer leagues such as bundesliga and la liga as i personally enjoy discovering for the first time future starts of the game. i remember watching xavi make his debut and recently i watched phil foden warming the bench for manchester city. in bundesliga and la liga phil foden would be playing first team football either for his parent club or on loan to a team in the same league playing regular at the highest level.

They need to sign more player otherwise they wont be able to cope with the schedule in 2018. Their performance is top notch right now and they are leading the the premier league with 15 points difference .

Losing few matches in 2018 might not be a bad idea for them either if they do really need to save up some player for the champions but I doubt that they are going to do that so signing more player is the only option
