No, it's not like what you said. Bayern wants to utilize Kane even more. So they have to offer him a new contract. They have good financialm, and it's easy for them to sign a new striker. However, the problem is that can new young striker deliver like what Kane do?

I understand what you are saying about not wanting to go bankrupt but then it clearly means that they may never get to win the league any time soon because the league is for the best thing and not always by luck. This isn't a disease in my opinion, but rather a necessity to maintain club financial stability. If you think about it no team wants trophies, and in Dortmund case, that's the only thing they can do right now.

They have to justify their decisions in front of the public and if they get an offer they can barely reject, not going for it can quickly become risky for the club bosses. But there is more: Dortmund will never be the final destination for top players, never. Bayern's squad is worth more than double the market value of Dortmund's. Bayern, on average, pays more than double the salary of Dortmund. The average value of a player is more than double for Bayern. When Dortmund signs a very good player with high potential, in most cases those players know that Dortmund is just one step towards their final destination (Barcelona, Madrid, Manchester City, PSG, etc.). So they either sign rather short contracts (2-3 years) or they have special clauses in their contracts.

Dortmund learned the hard way one time when they did not sell Lewandowski, and he could leave Dortmund for free when the contract expired. That is a double edged sword for any club without oligarchs backing it.

Harry Kane is a striker that plays like players like Benzema and Suarez, and it is very hard to see players like that who can play like that. Bayern Munich want to keep Harry Kane as long as he can still perform well for them, despite the fact that he is still balling and scoring goals at the age of 33. He is also a type of player that can play with any club and still play well, and if Bayern Munich does not give him a new contract he will receive many offers from top clubs including Real Madrid.

Well, I have no idea whether the publicly listed status has as much impact on decisions as it does for the average company. Since great players can either bring in a lot of money when they are sold, or bring in money by being competitive and actually winning stuff, it might be less rational than for a business selling products or services. And I think the decision to keep Lewandowski until his contract expires is probably one example that, in a few tough cases, they could decide to go against immediate cash.

The salary thing made me look it up here. You know what's super crazy? Jamal Musiala, lol. I wasn't aware that including bonuses, he can make more than Kane... That one amazing season he played brought him an incredible contract. 22.83 m fixed + 12.45 m bonuses. I don't think he is worth that much and especially after his injury, his performance has declined significantly. Good for him though that the contract expires in 2030!
