The possibility of Union Berlin maintaining the top spot depends on their performance against their opponents Monchengladbach in their tomorrow match, Union Berlin have been brilliant since the beginning of the season winning 7 matches in 11 games played and being at the top of the table for more than months now so I think they have all it takes to remain at the top of the table if they maintain good form and wins in their next games even though Bayern Munich is looking better now in performance compared to their earlier start to the season. But to drop deep to 5-8 or lower, I think that's an understatement. Because with Union Berlin still at the top of the standings until near or close to the first half of the season, I don't think Union Berlin will fall that far.
At least Union Berlin still has a chance to finish in the top six, at least to get tickets for next season's European tournament. Because after all, at least Union Berlin has a plan to be able to maintain its form this season, so to fall deeper is something that is unlikely to happen.

There was when I was having high hopes that Union Berlin will be able to remain at the top of the Bundesliga table to January. I am beginning to have double mind because of the speed with which Bayern Munich is coming and also because Union Berlin is not an experienced team who will be able to withstand the pressure coming from behind.
