You need to understand the players, teams and the magnitude of the both competitions before concluding on the comparisons. With the champions league, these teams somehow were very hungry to get to that spot and found it a honor to have gotten that far, they possibly were okay with stopping at that point, moreover they will have an opportunity to attempt tit again in the following season which comes almost immediately after.

But with the World cup it was quiet different, it is like a one time attempt for some of the players as they may not play the next world cup which will be in some years after, France and England were playing to win the World Cup and nothing else in mind and so the third place gat no excitement on them, so the experience cannot be same.

Vincent Kompany has not done anything good for me because he has failed in the Champions League, many people expected much more from him and his boys and they failed and got beaten by PSG, Bayern Munich performed well in the league games and sometimes Kompany will bench his best players and they will win the game with the players he has and that shows how weak Bundesliga league is, i always said it that even without a good squad Bayern Munich will still win the league because they are the one dominating the league.

If you should have understood well the situation Bayern were in when Kompany took over the team as manager, and the record of Kompany, you would not say that Kompany has not done anything good.Kompany has just spent two seasons in the Bundesliga, and in both seasons he has won Bayern Munich the Bundesliga title, as well as some other trophies. The fact that Kompany has not been able to lead Bayern Munich to the Champions League final and win it for them should not be the reason why you conclude that he has not done anything good.

As for me, Kompany has done very well because he has rebuilt the team after it seemed to have collapsed before he took over the club. In fact, Kompany started his coaching career not long before he was appointed by Bayern. Dortmund is only targeting to sign some new young talents recently I assume. It isn't a surprising thing though as it has always been a big part of their vision so far.

Ibrahim Mbaye and Konstantinos Karetsas are the current rumoured players for them. Karetsas really impressed me with his statistics from last season though. But I think both can improve quite much on the right address for players like them which is Dortmund.
