For day-to-day use I have Electrum with some pocket money on my main/trading computer. For bigger transactions, I have an offline/air-gapped machine to sign offline transactions.

I really like using coinbase. I have been using it for some time, but I like the option to be able to trade my BTC for USD easily and then back when I want to. There are fees, but I think they are fair and when I do the trade and back I usually profit from my trades.

It depends on how much your storing. If using it properly and storing a little then a hot wallet is fine. But don't store a ton of coins in a hot wallet on a phone. If you do need more then that little amount I have been playing with trezor on mobile device past few day's - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1298917.msg13321397#msg13321397 . It lets you carry a very secure way and send from mycellium wallet if needed. So for mobile users with a decent holdings they need to use this might be worth a look.

Multibit HD or Electrum. Both are "thin" wallets that don't require the whole block chain to sync. Both Developers are available to get in contact with on this forum. Both are deterministic wallets and you can restore them from a seed word, that isn't available for Bitcoin Core QT but I wish it was Bitcoin Core-QT is the original "satoshi" wallet and it is recommend it only if you have 20+GB of free hard drive space. You need to wait for the whole blockchain to sync before you can access your wallet or conduct any transaction. This is a major problem. I have a computer that is relatively new and it took 2+ days for the blockchain to download.

This question is like asking which car is best. Everyone has their taste and everyone has specific reasons for buying a car. Personally, in the tutorials on my website, I tell new users to start out with Coinbase or Circle to get used to buying, selling, and using Bitcoin. Once they're comfortable I recommend they get a standalone wallet. The one I typically recommend is Copay because they have a version that runs on just about any platform. But the truth is that it's all personal preference and which features are important to you.

I also recommend my friends if someone wants to join bitcoin world then coinbase should be the first one and then moving to multi-sig or hardware wallets.

I have been testing a few and have become a big fan of hardware wallets. If it's a BTC address you will be using activly it is honestly the best bet of keeping it safe. With using a hardware wallet it's pretty amazing on some that even if computer is infected it could make a transaction and not be compromised (if used correctly). Also some of them can be tied with an android wallet which I have played with some. So even though your using your mobile device key is still on hardware wallet and it signs transaction on hardware wallet. So you can send from anywhere if you have a android phone and still have the security of a hardware wallet.

"Offline" (IMO) is just to distinguish between online/3rd party wallets (like Coinbase) and desktop wallets like Multibit or Core. You could also keep your wallet in "cold storage" which would mean you don't keep it stored on a machine that connects to the internet.

All of Bitcoins and transactions records are saved on the blockchain, not on any devices or computer. Wallets like multibit or mobile one just connect to Bitcoin nodes which save the whole blockchain and verify the transactions for you!
