Most people don't because mainstream science tells them there is not a shred of evidence that aliens exist. Some people believe in them anyway because they think they have been visited by them,or even abducted by them.

Aliens(intelligent life) almost certainly exists somewhere in the universe, the universe is just too large for them to not to. Simple alien simple(microbes and such) are probably all over the place, we just have yet to find them. As far as have smart aliens visited us here, there is a very small chance of that.
