So do I have to update to the most recent DigiCUBE Android wallet so it can stake ? Or can I still use the original one that is installed as I'm skilled enough to understand broken text

Any wallet released by me or on Android will work. There have been 0 hard forks, but there are about 20 different wallets that will work with the blockchain by now. All new wallets are currently fully compatible with all old wallets

All changes have been UI changes and adding a few extra nodes. You can run any of the versions if you want.
