How on earth is it possible 1.7 bln dollar Market CAP?!!
Watch out guys, this is very very smelly. no product of proof of concept to support such a market cap.
do not buy this shit.

You indeed need to do your home work.

The best starting point is the IOTA blog, maybe starting with this old update - https://blog.iota.org/iota-weekly-newsletter-1-9d79972cfe73. Read more - https://blog.iota.org

Real world projects:
https://insights.ubuntu.com/2017/02/20/iota-iot-revolutionized-with-a-ledger
https://innovationhub.innogy.com/news-event/3lj6DX6LS0C4SyKmgEOiQq/meet-our-future-customers--machines-with-wallets
https://blog.iota.org/announcement-iota-as-backbone-in-e-voting-research-18f13d0edbd4
https://decentralized-identity.github.io
There are more projects which have not been announced yet.

The battle for the Money of Internet is far from being settled yet. In term of the market cap, it takes 7 years for Bitcoin to get where it is today and 2 years for Ethereum to get where it is today, which is almost as high as Bitcoin. It won't be long before IOTA catches up with them in the race of Money of Internet.

I think the point is that the first day this coin is traded on an exchange and it is worth 1.7 billion. 10% of people on the planet could remotely articulate what Bitcoin is, 95% of those people don't know what ethereum is, 95% of people that know what ethereum is have never heard of IOTA, but this coin is worth 1.7 billion.

The amount of applications\ICO\companies that will have to rollout on top of IOT almost immediately to justify this high valuation will probably NOT happen.

While I do love the technology and the idea that zero fees and no blockchain bloat seem to be a reality with this coin, valuations have to be justified by market momentum. I think IOTA will be like ETH, come out pretty strong, fade for six months, and then have a run when companies start to leverage the platform.

The best thing about the valuation is that it validates how unique the technology is in comparison to ETH. Maybe can be an ETH killer in a few years. Will watch IOTA and Byteball as a result. Full disclosure, I did decide to by Byteball because of the IOTA valuation.

Those who hold and those who are without property have ever formed distinct interests in society

What is the total supply of IOTA?

The total supply of IOTA is (3^33-1) / 2, which equals to a total number of IOTA's of 2779530283277761

2,779,530,283,277,761

Dude the amount of coins in supply has ABSOLUTELY ZERO to do with the value of each coin. Its the amount of money invested into the coin that gives it value.

Cryptocurrency 101 come on man

Ah, so a coin having an absolutely astronomical amount of coins to dump on unsuspecting buyers has no effect on value.

Let's see how your prediction vs mine works. I believe this coin will be nobid soon, thanks to there being 2,779,530,283,277,761 coins.

Why do these Devs think its okay to sell so many coins before putting it on an exchange? It makes it seem so sketchy.

Let the average investor get in cheap. It shows that you're are honest and transparent about the distribution of tokens.

I think this will be a big lesson to be learned as more people come into this space with their own coins.

Just the opposite, they did let people in cheap, as you can see if you read the 450 pages of this thread. What they didn't do is hype it like crazy like those newer ICOs.

Put it on an exchange where everyone is aware of it from the beginning instead of people not even knowing about this or have to research in order to find it.

Can anybody clear 1 thing for me: how much iota is owned by developers?
I mean they announced at ICO that there is no premine and all tokens are spread among investors. Though that doesn't make sense as it leaves no motivation to develop the product. So I guess they still own some. So how much, and how did they get it? I mean if some of btc invested belong to them  that's pretty much premine.

IOTA has been traded since a year OTC. It was not production ready to be launched at exchanges till now. It was at dogecoins market cap 4 months ago. Anyone who took the trouble of researching outside polo trollbox knew about it and bought in the llast few months.

For god sake you have been on Bitcointalk for less than a month. IOTA thread is active since the ICO and people are learning it and trading it. Why do you complain about missing out? You should have been here two years ago to reap the benefits now. Don't worry find some gems now and reap the benefit after two years.

Yes person to person using escrow. and then on YDX slack. It was painstaking but fully worth the reward.

What you see on exchange is actually 1 MIOTA = 1,000,000 IOTAS.

I have 1 GI IOTA, which translates to 1000 MIOTAS. Its currently worth $600 bucks.

Do the calculation, the total amount of IOTAS supply is 2,779,530,283 MIOTAS

Ethereum current supply is 95 Million.
