hey guys,
i'm new to the forum and iota is one of the coins i'm most excited about
what really sold me on iota is this interview with one of the founders - https://soundcloud.com/arthurfalls/ether-review-69-iota-the-post-blockchain-era
he seems like a solid guy and explains the tech quite well.
i'm surprised that upon searching for posts on iota in this forum, there are many posts from 1 to 2 years ago of people thinking iota is a scam and being very frustrated. can someone explain to me why?

lots of people thought Bitcoin was scam in the early time too. Even today, some people still think so. Same to Ethereum. People's hearts go with people's treasures and people's intelligence goes with people's hearts.

^ this

You can always tell how legitimite a project is by the number and intensity of haters present.

Haters would not waste their time if they were not afraid of the impending and inevitable disintermediation.

IOTA has tons of haters who spend their most valuable commodity (their time left in their life as it ticks away never to return).  This shows us how valuable and viable IOTA is as a disintermediator.

You should have seen the mountains of ETH haters who ranted daily about how ineffective ETH would be even as it blasted billions in market cap.

Bitcoin haters are governments like Bolivia (what does THAT tell you).

One of the metrics that I use to judge the validity of a project is the amount and intensity of the hate, and BTC wins hands down, however, if you look at percentage of haters vs holders, then it's possible that IOTA has the max metric.  What does this mean in our scientific analysis?

Stay tuned.....

for the next episode....

your logic has no basis. there are as much hate on scam coins as there are on legit ones so imo your argument basically doesnt say anything substantive.

why didnt the founder and devs show their profiles on the website. eth founders were very transparent right off the bat.

and why dont they list on other exchanges. why only on bitfinex which wont serve us customers soon. this is the most puzzling part for me.

so many issues with wallets as well.

however, i do like the fact that they are adding more and more people to the team. and thats a good thing.

Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

You can see the devs profiles here - https://forum.iota.org/t/list-of-the-publicly-known-iota-core-developers/2667

Exchanges decide if they want to list iota or not. Since iota is a new tech, it takes time for exchanges to list it. I heard many exchanges are working on it.

1. Because they are free to decide, and they all showed their face so this point is more than irrelevant.
2. Because they don't own any exchanges, exchanges decide for themselves which coin they add and when.
3. There is no issue with the wallet at all.

Is theymos right when he claims IOTA is centralized? I am referring to a thread of him where he was analyzing various altcoins https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2095328.0

He wrote the following about IOTA:

Quote
IOTA

The tangle design is interesting and potentially useful, though I have several serious concerns about how it will actually work long-term:

 - In order to achieve lasting, stable scalability, something will need to be done to limit bandwidth. Otherwise you still have the problem that everyone needs to download everyone else's transactions in order to be a trustless node, and this simply doesn't scale no matter what else you do. How can you split the network so that one node can trustlessly ignore a lot of the network's total transactions, but transactions are still possible cross-split? Doing something like splitting the graph into a cycle of semi-separate segments might be possible, but it seems very difficult to do this and maintain security+convergence.
 - With a chain, if miners become evil and rewrite the last 6 blocks or something, everyone is going to notice and be affected, and so a unified response (PoW change, etc.) will be fairly easy. But with a graph, maybe an attacker could just nibble at the edges in such a way that 99.99% of users are able to think "well, it's not really my problem". In fact, it may not even be easily provable that an attack happened at all.
 - I am not convinced that a tangle is stable/convergent/secure in all circumstances. Even if it seems to work under all tests so far, it may well fall apart under a clever but not-too-difficult attack, or perhaps even just on its own. The whole idea that transaction volume is what adds security to the tangle makes me uneasy, since an attacker can always produce unlimited fake transactions, while the network will only produce a "natural" number of transactions unless additional measures are taken to generate good fake transactions.

Possibly due to the IOTA devs sharing similar concerns, IOTA's software currently relies on centralized checkpointing.

Besides the question above I still have not done the transition. The good amount of IOTA I own is still on my old account. Is there a security problem if I let the coin stored on my old address? Is it required to the transition?

The exact time of the peak is 15:35:17, date and price appear correct.

Hey everyone,
I have to say I love IOTA, its one of the fastest growing communities I have seen. It seems to me like all things IOTA, IOTA's tech is nice that it integrates hardware and software very simultaneously. I love that feature about IOTA. Their team is very dedicated and I see IOTA going very far .. and in more own opinion very fast. The new ICO Ambrosus is going to be integrating the Internet of Things technology with their sensors for food and medical control. So that's really exciting.

Iota is so sexy but I don't trust Bitfinex very much and am reluctant to send my BTC there. It's great that new exchanges are around the corner, I can't wait to purchase some finally.

Well, In the future we no longer have to trust these centralized exchanges. I hope those decentralized exchangers would come up soon.

Decentralised exchanges already exist. See:
https://bisq.io/
https://bitshares.org/

But IOTA is probably not listed yet.

Come from behyind, so you say that once all the upgrades are done we will be able to recover our iotas, even those who had iota stored in wallet 2.3 with old seed?
Can you please show me a link to where this announcement was made.We really need help because there are so many people having this old/new seed transition problem.
Thanks

The announcement wasn't made yet.

Hi Come from beyond, it would be cool if iota-wallet.org could have a feature where we can transition from old seed to new seed. That would make transitioning quicker and simpler. Many problems with desktop wallet.

I think cfb has no relation with iota-wallet.org

Thanks for the heads up.I tried contacting the developer via the site contact us email but got no response. Is there any other way maybe via slack or bitcointalk that we can make conatact with him. Will be glad if anyone can help to get this feature on the website, (that is old seed to new seed transitioning)

I just love how every other thread has all of their features and sh** promoting it in the thread title, yet here we are in this single word thread. Still so many people not realizing how much bigger this is going to be.
