I'd recommend... a S5 ironically. Update to latest firmware and set fan speed to 20%, add a second fan. Pretty quiet and its probably the best GH/$/Efficiency ratio you can get if you have a decent electricity rate.

Should have modded the fans, I used 2 scythe fans in a push and pull method and I get around 37db while getting 1th/s

Edit: Right now i run those at 2k rpm and get 40c temp with 10c ambient.

That could work, the problem with only one fan seem to be that the air go all over because of the way the heatsink is made, with a second fan the air has a path of least resistance to a proper air flow.

Tbh i'm not sure why the S5 did not come with 2 fan, especially with that icky heatsink.

A bite-sized quiet S7 level miner would be very nice. Something like 1.6TH on 400watts. Would definitively make me review my recommendations of getting S5's, even though the price would probably be around 500-600USD.

What is your electricity cost/rate in per/kWh? If its over 0.08~0.1$/kWh i'd say just forget it, grab a small USB miner for fun and thats pretty much it. Maybe something a little bit bigger to run as a lottery miner.

Odds are even something efficient than a S7 will not ROI before the halving, which at which point make any profit an uncertain thing.
And going back to a S5 is also not recommended since your electricity cost would already take a significant portion of the earning. If you get S5's for 200$~ you could try it but its very hard to get it in the low 200$'s. Though not impossible. You might be able to break even after 6 months and then profit by selling it.

A lot of hosting centers are around the .10 area.   Once having some guess they will go down more, but hard to say now.  Some are a tad below but a lot want X watts to get that lower rate.   

As far ass ROI before having really all depends.  Those buying S7 when was 280 or so did a lot better then those buying at 230.     And it could change even more we don't know.   But at having the unit will still have value for sure on S7.  So I predict some might have to sell to ROI, but I see a lot ROI on them.

Best probabilities for quiet right now are the Avalon 4.1 and the Spondoolies SP20 - SP20 clocked at 1.1-1.2 can run the fan at 20% at almost any reasonable temp and is pretty quiet, I have read that the 4.1 was just quiet period though it's not as efficient as a S5 or an undervolted SP20 can get.

 Everything I've seen about the "next gen" miners (S7, Avalon 6, LK/BW B11) are that they will be at least as loud as an S5 and will probably NEED the full capabilities of their fan setup or very close to work.


 As far as RoI goes - even with the recent Bitcoin price surge, IMO the S7 has zero chance of achieving RoI before the halfing next July, and will be very close to unprofitable afterwards (probably still won't RoI even with that final trickle of profits for a very few months) unless your electric cost is VERY VERY VERY low.

 *IF* (and I class this is a huge if, picture those letters 10 meters high at least) Bitcoin pricing kept fairly close pace on increases to the diff increases of late, that would change - but I suspect the current price increase isn't going to last, as it has no new news backing it and no real reason to exist except POSSIBLY the Chinese economy falling into the pot.

Yeah 2 Antminer S3+ , they are 453gh/s each so 2 would give you around 900gh/s and cost you probably 200$ while being quite while stock.

But he has now also said he pays 0.08~0.10$/kWh. So even at 2% increment and the BTC being this high, he would not be able to ROI a S3 doing 455gh for 355watts for 100$ total.

Alavon 4.1 Will be valued at closer to the 400.  The were expensive when they came out and the value has came with stayed with them.  They are the most quiet stock miner there is.

I did get one for 200$ but i guess i would call it a Fluke, especially with the BTC price going up. But i did get half a S5 for 120$ or so and then a second blade for 100$, which result in a S5 for 220$.

I guess half a S5 would be the best for op. 600~650GHs for 300~ Watts.

Avalon 4.1 is most quiet there is as far as recent miners.  Nothing compares to it as far as stock miner not modded. It is more expensive though.

You really need to look into modding.  I have a feeling you might end up with a S5 again an do a mod this time.

Yup! it is quite irritating when you have a noisy rig sometimes the neighbor is confronting you about this so it is good that you had knowledge in modding your rig. but it is quite expensive so sometimes it is not a good idea.

And now the warranty is so tough if you mod fan's on bitmain gear you lose warranty.  So I'm not sure I would go with a new miner if he will be modding chances are.  just a high dollar item to lose warranty on.

The thing is if they catch you on a miner that has warranty and you removed any security sticker, or changed out fan.   They have tightened warranty up A LOT.

Does the S7 come with the S5's Fan control? If it has it, the step up to a S7 might be doable.

Of course it won't be in OP's 200$ Budget but beside a half S5 modded i don't see what would be quiet AND efficient. If it possible to run the S7 Lite cool and quiet during the winter, i might make the jump up from buying and recommending used S5's.

If true that would be a pretty crappy thing to do.  Always do research before buying, and ROI math.  

That is one bad thing about ebay is some miners I sold I did "free" tech support I did not plan on.  One or two I tought new miners how to mine... its kinda a pain but normally I got better prices off ebay compared to board here.  So it's kinda part of the expected things is everyone in a while someone buys a miner and does not know about mining.

Never had one tell me they had question before they would pay.   That is a new one.
