I see all of those 5xxx cards for sale, and I kinda wish I could put them to good use. Vanity mining is in my future, but it's not worth investing in.

Vanitypool is nice, but it's not often worth more than Bitcoin mining. Currently I would lose money activating it (at ~$0.15/kWh) even with 90% PSU power efficiency and GPUs at 0.95V.

Clearly you're right: not worth investing in.

P2pool tuning guide
Trade BTC for €/$ at bitcoin.de (referral), it's cheaper and faster (acts as escrow and lets the buyers do bank transfers).

But that doesn't mean I can fool around with it once BTC mining becomes unprofitable. Wink

I wouldn't buy cards for it, but if you have cards running, it might worth looking into depending on your cost of electricity.

I'm still mining away on my cards. Even though a few will be getting the first pre-orders, I don't think the majority of everyone will be getting theirs until January. Or at least, I'm not expecting mine until then.

It looks like I won't have to heat my small apartment this winter. I plan on using the rigs for LTC. Hopefully I can get about the same heat out of them.

Thanks for you to finally notice, I am from the future

That's interesting. I'd love to see what 7990 could do. or even if NVidia's next chips will be compatible

They work okay, but they get about the same kh/s as 7950s.

Yes it is. But we are counting the last weeks here...

I will keep mining, unlike others, I see the big picture and I'm in for the long run... so if I make 1 btc or 20 today, I don't really care...
worst case scenario I'm upping my electricity bill and lowering my heat bill so... maybe in 10 years when I have 10,000 - 15,000 BTC then BTC might be worth more than $10... Smiley

I wish I would have found bitcoin sooner. I'd love to have built up a massive 10+Gh/s mining farm! I always wanted to do this for Folding@home but could never come up with the funds to do so. Doing this a year or more ago would have paid for itself if bitcoin mining. As it is now, my 2.3Gh/s of GPUs will JUST pay for them selves by the end of the month.

? That's completely false, I get 524 K-HASH 24/7 Stable.
If anything 7970 is one of the best for litecoin mining.
I am using reaper. Btw increasing the aggression above 13
lowers the hash rate I noticed this, though if you put it
as a second card, and a different card as main,
its possible to get higher aggression, and yield more hash rates.

Here are the settings:
(litecoin.conf)

host ltc.kattare.com
port 9332
user xxxxx
pass xxxxx

protocol litecoin

worksize 256
aggression 13
threads_per_gpu 1
sharethreads 16
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 21000

MSI AFTERBURNER:

Core Voltage (mV):   1049 from 1174
Core clock (MHz) :    1000
Memory Clock (MHz): 1375
Fan speed: 54%
7970 Temp: 84 C
-------------------------------
524 KHSAH Mining Rates:

Do note I found a article some where, don't remember, but they
state that AMD cards can run almost indefinitely at 90 degrees.
and their limiting temperature is around 105 degrees.

I even undervolted to 1049 from 1174, as well as overclocked.
Its a good card.

.BIG WINNER!.

I really don't see the difference between having a GPU you could sell for $200 but choose not to in order to mine Litecoin/Vanity addresses, and investing $200 to purchase the same GPU for the same purpose. Either way you're giving up $200 in order to mine.
