I will do the long review with undervolt in mind.

Great.  If it can get under 0.2w/gh I may still consider grabbing one.

Im still curious about the noise levels.

This might the fan it uses ?

http://www.nmbtc.com/fans/part-numbers/DC-Axial-Fans/12038RB-A1L-EL-01/28658

That would indeed be perfect. Only 42 dB. Cool

Its a 4K rpm fan as I already said, about the same as an S7 in 30+ ambients and quieter in lower.

Ordered an A6 from ZH with useful info/pictures from this site: http://asicminer-shop.de/Avalon-6-35-TH-s (they posted before blockc)

1) Financial: There was about a net +$230 in favor of the A6 vs the S7. Part of the $230 pays for a new RPi setup from Spark Fun.

2) Engineering: From the pictures on the .de website, the thermal engineering looks better, one fan instead of two. The cooling fins are mechanically constrained to the hash board as opposed to using a thermally conductive glue bond. I think the glued fin approach in the S7 most likely forces the use of two fans at working at higher speeds. This is because of the worse thermal transfer characteristics of the glue bond versus a purely thermal conductive paste. The glued fin approach is a reliability concern.

The websites claim 80 chips for the A6, but from the pictures it looks like 9 chips x 8 rows = 72. 72 chips is also consistent with the hash rate, 3,500/72 = 50 Gh/s. Less chips means a lower supporting component count. This means higher reliability.

The other nice touch is the huge power supply bypass capacitor for each chip, mounted as close to the chip as possible.

What the engineering points to is the effort to engineer a good product without cutting corners.

If i run two or three of these from home will I need a PDU? Or is a decent surge board enough?

Thanks toptek! I'll definitely look at a set up similar now and definitely need to read more on the mains power back home!

Awesome! Can't wait for the results. How long does a long review go for?

Where are you based and how much are you on selling for?

I have 2 on order at Zoomhash and I'm waiting for them to ship!  They are saying this week, but we have heard that before.

After my talks with them, it appears that immediate shipping is the only advantage of this hardware over the S7.  I would hope they ship immediately, otherwise, why would someone buy one of these?

Looks like they include a Pi with the orders now so that's gotta be good for another $30.

It says that one Pi can control 50 A6.  Anybody know what kind of cable it uses to connect?  It looks like from the back of the miner it's some kind of 3 pin cable and they have two ports so I guess you just daisy chain the A6s together.  I'm wondering how long of a cable they provide for you.
