I actually quite like the name PevPot (which I assume "Pev" stands for "Positive EV"). The name is short and is very easy to remember IMO. Ryan could do a bit more in advertising the site though.

I guess the problem is that being +EV the site makes very little money for itself. Ryan takes 10% of the sponsorship money, which most weeks seems to be just 0.1 BTC from Just-Dice and 0.05 BTC from Ryan - so he makes a 0.04 BTC loss each week, before paying for hosting or advertising. Doesn't leave a whole lot of room for an advertising budget I guess!

I expect his hope was that word of a +EV lottery word spread virally - it's not often you find a +EV game run by a trusted community member after all. It's unfortunate that the game isn't more popular, but I guess most people don't recognise a good deal when they see it.

Hmmm I knew it doesn't get many sponsors but I didn't know it was so bad. Speaking of advertising, there are a few ways on my mind that will hopefully help it get more popular without much budget:
1. Ryan could bump the thread daily (cannot do it sooner than 24 hours or it will be against the rule of bitcointalk) so to get more new users be aware of the site.
2. I knew there is already a subtle mentioning of Pevpot on BAB front page, but I guess it could be made more noticeable.
3. From the above posts, it seems many users don't enjoy waiting for a few days to get the lotto result, so may be there could be a new lotto which runs for every 100 blocks. The new 100-block lotto would probably only share a small proportion of the sponsors pot such that it will still be +EV, while the original 1000-block lotto would not be heavily affected.

Running draw #9 now, lets see who won!

As for the site, the whole point of it for me was that it's a low-maintenance site. Just once a week I pay out the winner. I'm probably never going have the energy to actively market or advertise it. I really just built the site for the fun of building it, as I thought it  a neat idea, so I built it. If it spreads virally, then that's awesome. If it doesn't, oh well. But my main project is bustabit  (and with about ~150 people online right now, and ~700 BTC/wager a day, it keeps me pretty busy Tongue)

But it seems like a pretty awesome place to advertise, here's our traffic stats from google analytics:

not bad when you can get a listing on the homepage for like 0.001 BTC Tongue

Check out gamblingsitefinder.com for a decent list/rankings of crypto casinos. Note: I have no affiliation or interest in it, and don't even agree with all the rankings ... but it's the only uncorrupted review site I'm aware of.

Maybe some signature campaign might help increasing pot's volume and lottery's visitors/gamblers.

It is easier for you to play the game without registering your address. Take a look at the "Play from anywhere" on the right hand side on https://www.pevpot.com/how-to-play.

I don't think so. You need to have the control of the private key to sign a message.

Please take a look at the "Play from anywhere" on the right hand side on https://www.pevpot.com/how-to-play. You don't need to sign any message to collect your prize, and hence you don't need to have the control of your bet address nor your prize payment address.

At the very bottom of the page, you should see a line "Owned and operated by MoneyPot S.L.R. a Costa Rican gaming company (License No. 3-102-700828)" there.

Couple typos/grammer errors I saw on the page:
  • The https://www.pevpot.com/how-it-works has a link to the provably fair page that is incorrect. Using a _ instead of a - .
  • Grammar error under #2 on How it works page: Players buy tickets using bitcoin. For every (non-dust) satoshi sent you gets 1 ticket to win. That should be get instead of gets.

Explain something to me please. If I choose to play from anywhere, I fill in two fields. The one for a Nickname and the other for a Bitcoin address I have previously created. Right? The explanation then says, " All money sent to your forwarding address, will automatically be forwarded to the lotto address (minus only that to cover mining fee costs).

How do you have access to the private key to forward money from the forwarding address to the lotto address? I think I am missing something here? or is there some script not running on my computer that creates a forwarding address, when you click on the " create forwarding address " option?

Please explain.  Huh

Forwarding address is like a private deposit address. If you need that, it will be indeed generated on the server and Ryan has control over it. Just like all gambling sites with private deposit addresses.

Well, I tested it with a quick address I created on Bitaddress.org and I Got validation error: Invalid value for win_address
Do you first have to send money to a Lottery address and then fill in the fields here? https://www.pevpot.com/play

Does the system check your sender address against the lottery address and then validate that you send money and only then link your Nickname against that? So if you did not send money, it will not validate the Nickname?

The way it is described, it sounds like you have to supply a winning Bitcoin address and a Nickname linked to that address and then type it into those fields and then send BTC to your winning address and by some miracle, Ryan sends that money to the lottery address to join the pot.

I do understand that Ryan needs a address, where he can send the winning after the draw was done, and that you need to confirm that it was you. What happens if you just fill in a Nickname and a random address before you send BTC to the lottery address?

Where do you send the money to buy the tickets? The lottery address or the address you filled in for the winning address?
