I don't know if it is the best or not but I have never had any issues with Avast.
In fact, I don't think that I have even had a real virus since I started using Avast a few years back.
It might not be the best antivirus but it seems to get the job done.

Avast is my one of the worst antiviruses that I know of. He more than any other antivirus constantly writes something is blocking, but it misses viruses.

I used to use Kaspersky. It was very good but a bit heavy for the system (I had some low performance PC in that time). Within last, maybe, 4-5 years, I use Avast. It seems it is as good as Kaspersky was, but it is much more lighter for the system. I also use it on all mobile devices. Beside Avast, every once in a while, I scan my PC with MalwareBytes

Now a days, which Anti virus is best ?
none. secured *nix box. win itself is bloatware, malware, etc. pre-packaged as an OS even before you 'catch' any virus.

I used Avira in my laptop. You can't determine which is the best. It depends on the file has been infected by the virus. Some software antivirus detecting virus but other software antivirus were not. It is not ok to have more than one antivirus installed. Having multiple antiviruses installed would cause first, they will fight over viruses because having multiple antivirus programs then they will detect viruses even is not threatening your program, secondly is they will kill each other because antivirus program would compete with other antivirus programs that are monitoring and sending information about your system and tendency to look viruses, so it will attempt to block it and remove it., and lastly, they will sap on your power if you have more than one antivirus it will operate simultaneously, your system’s effectiveness can be greatly diminished or completely wiped out altogether and performing redundant operations.

I still settle with the installed windows bit defender on my laptop. It still blocks malware on the website. I just avoid going on sites that had potential malware included in them. But aside from it I prefer Kaspersky as an antivirus. This is my all time antivirus that I had been using since 5 - 7 years.

Opinions are going far apart from each other here. As far as I know from working for an IT-Security company the safest anti-virus is an intelligent user. Especially in companies it is very important to give introductions for non-IT but also for IT departments for secure passwords, protection against social engineering, data safety and do backups all the time. The anti-virus itself is way less important than these aspects. But if I had to recommend a special software I would suggest Avast. It is lightweight, not annoying and usually doing a good job. Best would be the combination with Little Snitch to watch all network connections.

I used to use Kaspersky and I still think its the best. Although a little too much on the heavy resource usage side. This time around I got bitdefender and I am happy with it. It seems to work just fine.

I have nothing but Kasper, so I do not even know what the other viruses offer. But I am quite happy with the fact that I have and Kaspersky is right for me.
