This discussion makes no sense, since it's pretty obvious that small transactions (like paying for a cup of coffee) would be trivial as using fiat money when people do hold btc in mobile wallets...

this is only true for now, and anyway fiat confirmation is longer than bitcoin, but none talk about it, because fiat is not affected by malleability, so merchant can accept it with zero confirmation

for bitcoin this is not true, so merchants ar enot willing to do the same for the time being, but in the future, this may change..

Bitcoin is good to be an asset. Not a currency. it's too volatile. Bitcoin can go up and down, it's to be traded and made profit, not used to buy things. Currencies are mean't to be unstable, they're meant to be a sort of ruler to measure the value of a good. How can you find the length of something when your cm/m values are always changing?

I will say bitcoin will replace the fiat for sure and very soon. because we can able to see the more adaption in nowadays. and due to halving price gonna double in the market price of bitcoin. So better try to save the bitcoin and work for future.Smiley

In my opinion bitcoin has already replaced the fiats in the format of bitcoin debit cards. With bitcoin debit cards we can spend bitcoin any where we were using our fiats. So, in near future, bitcoin will dominate fiats in all possible ways like in physical format also.

I'm pretty sure these cards are still using fiat internally as their "back-end"

Fiat is here to stay and so is bitcoin.
It makes no sense that fiat will dissapear, since many market depend 100% on fiat.

Most governments will still use fiat as that is easier to manipulate and print. Bitcoin will also be there coexisting.
Yes, it may be something like Gold in someday but I do not think it becomes like fiat at all.

It is like gold already.

Bitcoin is a great asset, and it's actually easier to keep than gold, it's just the governments that don't want it. Hence fiat.

It's really hard to think that bitcoin will replace fiat one day, fiat will stay always as it is the oldest and first currency to trade things and services.

yeah all existing rules, fiat has a government regulation and of course the majority of people would choose fiat,
but the days will be changed, all done online, including the payment
the question is, can fiat money evolve ?

Everything is going digital and only virtual digits, time by time we will see that the real printed cash will be very rare to find.

This is because most people have no idea about monetary systems of the past.
From 1880 to 1913 we had the classical gold standard where every dollar, british pound etc, was pegged by an equivalent amount of gold.
From 1913 to 1944 there was the gold exchange standard. After that until 1971 we saw the Bretton Woods system.Remember Nixon's famous speech?!
And since 1971 we have the pure fiat currency system where every bill is backed by nothing than just pure promise!
So as conclusion we can see that the monetary system always has changed. And it will change again!
And why shouldn't Bitcoin play a role in that?

I think fiat will always be fiat, like we know it today. I don't think much will change about it. I just don't think bitcoin can replace fiat. The only way this would happen is if all the governments worldwide would adapt to it. Which I doubt that they would.

yes brother, i am agree with you that bitcoin can not replace fiat money. Beacuse many people don't  know how to use bitcoins
there are many people who don't even know the meaning of bitcoin.
so it takes time but one day came when btc's take place of fiat money as btc's are going on popular day by day

I think BTC can replace fiat sometime in the future, with how technology develops it's pretty possible to see BTC at such a level sometime later.

Stop with dreaming. Bitcoin is an alternative, how hard is this to understand? Fiat currencies will remain as main currency in the world. Bitcoin can't change that.

Possiblities there dude. If you take some long years the world belongs to Barter system Only After that Some of Asian, Greek and Roman Kings started Coin and currency system. As like bitcoin also possible in future Digital world. Adaption and many users day by day in Bitcoin forum is example for that.

The difference there is that money was an improvement to the barter system. Bitcoin is not an improvement to fiat, it's just an alternative to it. Digital currencies are actually less versatile because they have no physical form.

The people who are in power will never let that happen. They make their billions from the system.

Bitcoin will be banned LONG before anything like this ever happens.

Exactly, one of the most important aspects of money is that it is a stable store of value. Highly volatile assets fail this crucial test.

Exactly what I would say...It can..and It will.   2016 will be the year of scrambling to either try to replace bitcoin or incorporate it so not to get left behind.

I love Bitcoin
