and oh not related to the above I bought a  superbpag USB 3 hub from amazon -  and a rPi B from crazyguy. also an artic breeze mobile (amazon again) and BTW that arctic breeze mobile says "virtually silent USB fan" umm no its NOT. it makes a hum.

anyway going to switch the miners from the HTPC to the rPi B and the suberbpag with the artic breeze in a few days.

when you get it going please post a few photos.

the 2 compacs on the superbpag usb 3 hub with artic breeze


temp gun on the compac. thats 76.7 fahrenheit, so 26 centigrade. they are both at 300 mhz and ambient is 55F (my unheated unfinished basement)


the whole setup. raspberry pi B, superbpag, gigabit switch, compacs, artic breeze. they are sitting on a rebuilt optiplex 980 box which runs freenas and plex server for my network. the nas, pi and switch are plugged into an apc es550 ups, the hub and monitor are just on surge protector.

thanks. my original plan was to run the compacs off that freenas/plex box in a freenas jail (debian vm) but while i could compile cgminer-gekko and it could see the sticks they wouldnt fire up. till this setup the compacs ran in my living room plugged directly into the htpc that runs kodi/nextpvr. all media is on the freenas box so plex and kodi share it.

anyway this new setup is plan b.

my aim is long term low power lotto mining.

Plus I am a bit tired/depressed with BTC.

its an interesting time for btc.. hash speed is getting faster but efficiency is not catching up.

soon the miners wont be profitable.. right now the s5 just hit break even with 10c KWH.. next jump it will lose money per month.
the s3 has been losing money for a few..

i personally think large mining outfits will dump all their equipment well before the block halving.. difficulty will surely go down.
im pretty sure the s7 cant survive the halving with current difficulties.. my calculations put break even with 10c KWH around 350,000,000,000 difficulty @ ~375USD/BTC

cut that in half and you get 170000000000
right now we are looking at
Estimated Next Difficulty:   174,307,705,850 (+20.95%) in 10 days.



anyway back on subject..

id be content with just leaving my compac sticks on the club and just let it run.. dont worry about micro manage it..
if we hit a block we split it to current members.. no worries about shares or anything.
