Let's play a game...

Phil used to run a "guess the next difficulty" thread that would give bonus BTC to whoever correctly guessed the upcoming difficulty correctly.  We're going to do something similar here.

The game is this:

Guess the percentage of expected shares at which the pool hits the next block.

The prize:

2BTC

The catch:

You must actively be mining on the pool to qualify.

The closest guess to the actual percentage will be the winner.  If there is a tie, the prize will be divided equally amongst the winners.  As mentioned, you must be mining on the pool to qualify.  I don't care if you have a single USB stick or a 10PH farm, you must be actively submitting shares to the pool.

There are no limits to how many times you can guess; however, each guess absolutely MUST be 10% or more than your previous one.  You can have exactly 1 active guess at any given time.  If the shares percentage goes past your guess, you then have the choice to leave it as is, or make a new guess.  The new guess must be at least 10% higher than your previous guess.

Example:

Miner guesses 37.6%.  The pool exceeds 37.6%.  Miner can now leave guess alone, or create a new guess at 47.6% or higher.

Remember, it's closest to the actual percentage that wins.  So, if you guess 37.6%, the pool passes 37.6% and you change to 47.6%, but the pool solves the block at 37.61%... well, you should have kept your original guess Smiley

As an added bonus - if you are not only the person who guesses correctly, but you are also the block finder, you will receive an additional 1BTC.  That's right - there's 3BTC total up for grabs.

So, point your miners here.  Point your rentals here.  Make your guesses and win some coins!

I still run the give away  prize is .2 this round.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1436869.0

Back to here.

my guess is 27.27

the pool is at  23.32

so if we go to 27.28  and I switch  to 38.38  that is allowed.

but I could wait until  the pool is at 35.00 before the switch and still pick 38.38 since 38.38 is more then 10 higher then the first pick of 27.27

Correct.  Once the pool passes your selected guess, you can either keep it or make a new one.  And, as long as your guess is at least 10% higher than your previous, you're good to go.

I don't know about any mobile app... but you can sign into your account and go to "My Account -> QR Codes" to see a QR code you can use to import your API string.  Alternatively, you can go to "My Account -> Edit Account" to see the string itself.

That's up to the developer of the application.  By passing the API string in the URL, you can get pool and user information returned in JSON format.

For example...
Code:
http://www.bravo-mining.com/index.php?page=api&action=getpoolstatus&api_key=MY_API_KEY
Returns:
Code:
{"getpoolstatus":{"version":"1.0.0","runtime":5.1860809326172,"data":{"pool_name":"Jonny Bravo's Mining Emporium","hashrate":2517011360741.8,"efficiency":99.91,"progress":23.86,"workers":61,"currentnetworkblock":407585,"nextnetworkblock":407586,"lastblock":407382,"networkdiff":178678307671.69,"esttime":304892.34173673,"estshares":178678307672,"timesincelast":124296,"nethashrate":1.3166085803244e+18}}}

Similarly,
Code:
http://www.bravo-mining.com/index.php?page=api&action=getuserstatus&api_key=MY_API_KEY
Returns:
Code:
{"getuserstatus":{"version":"1.0.0","runtime":5.1829814910889,"data":{"username":"jonnybravo","shares":{"valid":10209767093.38,"invalid":10858574.079805,"id":2,"donate_percent":0,"is_anonymous":0,"username":"jonnybravo"},"hashrate":2106032147435.2,"sharerate":490348.82}}}

You need your API key, otherwise the call just returns access denied.

Done.  Good luck!

the pool is at 24%

LASERminer     picks 25.25
philipma1957   picks 27.27

so if the pool goes to 27 LASERminer needs a new pick since my 27.27 is closer to 27 then his 25.25.

He would need go to at least 35.25

jonny this is a nice contest as it allows for multiple picks with complex strategy behind the picks.

If have some time on your hands and can look at results a lot  a lower pick  like 30 to 50  is much better to do then  an 80 or a 90.

Since you get to change the pick.

jonny will you allow for 1 change or 2 changes or no limit of changes ?

1 or 2 changes  may be cooler then no limit .

I could just do 27.27  then 38.38  then 49.49 then 50.50 then 60.60   then 70 .70 then 80 .80  and  bctmke would still have never had a chance to win yet.

but limit each players changes to one or two makes the picks much harder.

Thanks, Phil Smiley.  I tried to come up with something a bit more interesting than "find a block and get a bonus".  Figured I'd use your "guess the difficulty" contest as inspiration since I enjoyed that (and actually won once).

If this catches on and brings a bunch more miners to the pool, I might make it a regular thing, albeit future iterations will likely have smaller prizes since I can't afford to continue to toss that much coin around.  Of course, if the pool does get a bunch more miners, then the fees and donations would start to cover these contests so they wouldn't all come out of my own pocket Tongue.

No... Phil's understanding is the correct interpretation.  If you picked 25, your next pick must be 35 or higher, as I gave in my example in the contest posting.

I like the game / contest

This contest is very helpful to a small guy  as he can mine with peanuts so to speak  and have an equal shot at  the 2 coins .  the 1 for the block hit no.

my worker one below is some compac sticks

my worker two below is some rental

This mean a new guy like me can point and s-1 or s-3 here.  The block bonus may never hit , but right now my chance of close guess would be 1 in 10 or so.

You are correct it allows older gear like the s-3 or an under volt , down clocked s-1  to have a justifiable reason to mine.

Right now there are under 10 people in the contest.

User Name-----------   Percentage
1 )philipma1957-----   27.27%
2 )dennishh----------   53.82%
3 )bctmke------------   96.3%
4 )dsppage-----------   36.33%
5 )OneInchWonder--   86.3%
6 )LASERminer------   25.25%
7 )zachmonroe------   72.8%
8 )carlsberg112-----   35.32%

So if you point a s-3 here and make a pick your chance of hitting the guess is 1 in 9

So

LASERminer---------  25.25
philipma1957--------  27.27
carlsberg112--------- 35.32

actual number 25.56

so  Laserminer  has passed his 25.25   but  at 25.56  he is closer then  me at 27.27

so while he will need to make a change soon  he can still wait. he must do 35.25 or higher.

meanwhile someone not entered could still enter with 27.00 or 25.80  giving him the now number if a block hits now.

The guessing strategy is very cool here.

another player nice.

what I really like is I can't always do a rental  so by putting the compac sticks here it acts like a place holder.

then when I want I can put in a strong rental.

We are at 26%  which mean LaserMiner  is off by  0.75  and I am off by 1.27

In a tiny bit I will be the closest to the  % number.

I could then choose to rent real high!
