A big, big update.

MAJOR CHANGES:

-PPcoin makes it into MAJOR.
because: got to the big exchange, got big market cap and kept it for some time. CONGRATULATIONS PEPSICOIN !!

-"NEW" category is now "CANDIDATES"
because sometimes coin stays there for a long time and is not new anymore, or even comes back from the dead.

-BQC gets to CANDIDATES and gets a new description:
now: -BBQ BBQCoin - forgotten after 51% attack on launch, now revived and active.
instead of -BBQ BBQCoin - killed in 51% attack on launch, now revived and looking good
its back, bacause diff is stabilized for a long time now and there are more connections than some alive coins for months.

-NOT A COIN category is now "NOT AN OPENSOURCE COMMODITY CRYPTO COIN"
to clear any doubts about ripple , digicash and future not-coins

- Swiftcoin added as  "NOT AN OPENSOURCE COMMODITY CRYPTO COIN"
[thank you zero3112]

MINOR CHANGES

bitgold provided nice and easy domain for "the list" http://newbitcoins.com

was:
DigiCash  historical try for digital curency by David Chaum, failed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigiCash
e-cash and e-money are part of / continuation of  digicash . Possibly where Bitcoin came from.
changed to:
eCash historical try for digital curency by David Chaum, operational but died. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigiCash
DigiCash was the company that maee eCash . Possibly where Bitcoin came from.
[thank you, Neverest!]

TRC added : "difficulty initialy flaved but corrected" , "miner-jump resonance resistant" - temporary removed

BTE changed from:
Bytecoin the 1:1 bitcoin copycat. really bad difficulty adjustment for altcoin, extremally high hashrate for that young coin.
to:
-BTE Bytecoin- the 1:1 bitcoin copycat, nothing changed. extremally high starting hype/hashrate.
as it is no longer "that young" and hashrate is no longer "that high"

RUC, NVC - minor description adjustments

some layout corrections

----------------------------------------------

as I made  some major changes, I encourage you to give me your opinion.
we need to keep this list at altcoin community accepted form.

I think Ripple could be a currency if people start accepting them as payment...long shot I know.

Which of these besides BTC and LTC should I establish a small position in if I'm interested in seeing whether it appreciates in the future?

ripple is a currency. it has a good stable value, working exchange and no sign of problems.

it is simply not a cryptocoin, its a COMPANY issued credit, like a tesco/wallmart/apple giftcard. you can buy thingh with giftcard. but they are nor real money. company goes down - you have no money, company prints into oblivion - you have no money. this is ripple, currency, but no real money.
not commodity, not decentralized.

yes, but it's described as "alive but little support." I wanted to do some expereminents with FBX and then I found coblee's note.
But ok, nevermind  Wink

I try to check everytthing for myself. I downloaded fairbrix client, connected to network. so it is working. just noboty uses it, and since it produces coins all the time, at no difficulty, nobody is ever going to use it.  its a zombiecoin. never to leave a dead/dying category. but its working. coblee was angry somebody totally unknown posted new version of binaries. thats why he closed his thread and renamed it to "dead". he didnt wanted to someone infect their computers by believing its his build. He was right. description is ok i thing, maybe I can change it to : "oficialy abandoned, not supported, dying"  ?

That somebody was me.

Pretty much correct description, it's in bad shape. Not sure if you can
even initially connect to network when irc is down. And the "nobody used it for 1year+
but it produced coins" is the worst part.

Btw, I played a bit with fairbrix source and litecoin source, and while code bases are very different,
the 2 coins are almost identical twins, i.e. a dozen small changes to latest ltc code, and
it became a working (with minor display bugs) 0.6.3c fairbrix client.

Perhaps the zombie needs a new thread  Wink

since I added BBQ to alive list, difficulty jumpet and it has quite nice hashrate. its stronger than ever I can remember.
we need exchange and pool -  and it can easly go to minor!
this is proof, that this list is an important data.
I am very happy, I was not in a hurry and very conservative with these changes, they have some visible impact.
once again I encourage altcoin comunity to contribute their opinion on major changes.

BTE hashrate exploded again, it's 0,5 TH/s now. there are many pools, and now a working automatic exchange, not counting 3 manual ones.
its way more than is needed to be promoted to "minor". also beacause of direct BTC copy, there is no obvious mistakes in the code, besides diff algo.
promote it now, or wait till diff hits 65536 and see if hashpower stays?

So it's not a list of cryptocurrencies in this thread? It's already been established there was no premine on Mincoin because it was released the same time the blockchain started.

If someone else wants to create a more up to date list than this thread then I'd welcome it.

A touch arrogant, don't you think? I'd say Bitecoins are more of a scam coin, being a 1:1 copy of Bitcoin with no other redeeming features and just waiting to be killed off by an ASIC attack.

That said, feel free to keep it off the list for now, will give me more time to mine more Mincoins before everyone else starts rushing in. Tongue

I love this joke-coin. MILLIONS of coins premined first 3 days by founders and then BAM, 2 coins per block. I hope someone is posting drunk cause this coin is a worse joke then BTE.
