Could use an update, but much more neutral and informative nonetheless.

Awesome thread. I read all the coins, but some descriptions are kind of vague.
Do any of them match these? I want to make at least one, if not all of these in the next 5 years. Please contact me if you can help.
(list)

EDCoin - impossible to decentralize
1TestCoin: easy
2CoinCoin: impossible to force people what to do
3USA Coin- hard to find gov official to convert coins on exchange, impossible to decentralize
4Economy Coin - not complete idea, who gets the dollars?
5Charity Coin- easy, but impossible to decentralize and high corruption risk
6Patient Coin- impossible to force people what to measure with
7Solar Coin- no way to force it in the protocol
8Seed Coin: impossible to force people what to do
9Collectable Coin- easy, with low or no economy, coin will die when reward drops to zero
10NAFTA Coin- easy, just another clone
11TexCoin- easy, just another clone
12Water Coin- impossible to force people what to do
13BioCoin- impossible to force people what to do
14ETcoin- impossible to force people what to do
15ZombieCoin- arent there a lot of them allready? mincoin , feathercoin, freicoin ?
16SportsCoin- impossible to force people what to do
17Slavecoin- quite easy

1. Edcoin: Not impossible to decentralize. I bet if schools were given the option to premine, kids and insiders would be mining. And the schools goal would be to sell the coins, so they wouldn't be hoarding them for 51% control.

2. I'm not trying to force people. It's just the mission of the coin. There is a porncoin, but just because you have porncoins doesn't mean you have to go pay cam girls.

3. I never suggested that a government official be involved,.

4. Whoever makes the coin would get the coins and be responsible.

5. Who would want to decentralize a coin that is giving them free stuff. And every coin that gives money to the developer has a chance of corruption.

6. It is not impossible to force people to measure in hash. You just make multiple sites an forum threads about the price compared to hash. If they trade it for money, fine. That's on them.

7. There is to a way to force it into protocol. By giving a percentage to the coins developer.

8. Same as the hash coin, as long as I put the exchange rate, it's done. They can trade for cash if the want to between each other, but it will be listed as seeds.

Replying to the rest now, my computer is freezing up.

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.

9. No, the coin won't die. Have you not read about what happens to BTC when they run out of coins? This coin could be the test to see if we can for sure get that done.

10. True (Like China Coin)

11. True (same)

12. Not impossible. If you open THE ONLY water coin store, and the only thing you sell is water. Then it's done.

13. Not impossible, same situation.

14. No impossible to force people, since the coins are being saved in a wallet, they don't have to "do" anything.

15. Are those MEANT to fail?

16. Not impossible if you make the only website that accepts them

17. Hopefully.

And just because a few people deter from a coins mission does not mean its not working.

Just because someone trades a coin coin person to person, doesn't mean the world is over or the coin is finished.
It just means someone found a use for it besides its intended use.

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.

digitalcoin launched with an ascending block reward to combat premining.

i dont recall exactly but diff=1 is extremely difficult to mine the genesis block without a massive gpu cluster.  i think the developer realized this and created his ascending (something like 4->7->10->13->20[current block reward]) method to accomodate this and mitigate premining.

If anything it deserves to be in "new" and worldcoin should be in "spam"

and the launch on the 20th was announced several days ahead of time, it was not 'sudden'

I list a bunch of coins on my site that I just set up, along with their difficulties, rewards, etc.  Also shows which is the most profitable coin to mine with your current hashrates.
I just launched the site the other day, so it's really new - I'm open for suggestions/comments on it!

I am making YouTube videos for various Alt-Currencies, what would you like to see said about these currencies (besides what is written). And which currencies would you add to the list?

Litecoin- If Bitcoin is Gold, this is Silver. Easier to mine.

BBQ Coin- Started as a joke

Devcoin- The ethical coin, 90% to developers, you can earn them by writing, developing web content or taking pictures

Bitbar- If Bitcoin is a gold coin, this is a gold coin. Hard to mine, EXTREMELY volatile market.

Namecoin-

PPCoin-

Novacoin-

Freicoin-

Feathercoin-Litecoin clone with 4x the coins

Chinacoin- Presented in China first

Yet Another Cryptocoin-

Royalcoin-

Goldcoin-

Luckycoin- Random giant blocks to reward miners extra sometimes.

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.

Hi. I have been studying the cryptocurrency situation for a while now and think that there are not enough altcoins on the market. I am launching several new coins at the same time to provide a more robust portfolio...

Zimbabwe Dollar Coin ZDC. It has 21 million units maximum, but unnoticed software bugs (features) will make the decimal point move to the right every few years for newly mined blocks.

Ponzicoin PZC. 21 million total. The miners who make money in the first 10% of the 21 million receive a % from miners' rewards later. Next 10% of the 21 million receive a different cut. etc.

North Korea coin NKC. People who hold this coin think it is the best coin in the world and threaten to attack all other coins. It is difficult to buy food with this coin although some claim that they will permit cannibalism of body parts for NKC.

Kentucky Fried Chicken Coin. KFC. This is a physical blockchain of Kentucky Fried Chicken in WI, USA.  People are only allowed to eat from either end, not in the middle. Nobody can use a fork or we'll end up with multiple blockchains.

Dilute bitcoin coin DBC. This coin is intended to make all other alt coins lose value by its sheer existence on altcoin currency exchanges. Its consequence to bitcoin is unknown. It might make bitcoin more credible, or it might diliute it.

I Can't Wait Coin. ICWC This coin is intended to rush into use claiming to be innovative and having learnt from those before it. We don't need months or years to determine what didn't work and how to improve. Days and weeks are fine.

Pump and dump coin. PDC. Self explanatory. You should buy these now.

One Coin. OC. Only one coin is available. Premined. Capitalizes on the 'scarcity' of coins and ignores the ability to represent a coin using fractions. Note I'm selling 1 OC for 100 BTC or nearest offer.

Madoff Coin. MDC. Custom GPUs are needed for this coin. You can buy them from me. I promise good returns.

Pound Define coin #PDC. This coin is a better build of other alt coins that makes it easier for someone to create a new alt coin by just changing one line of code.

Pyramid Scheme Coin. PSC. The majority of the hashrate behind this coin is run by avalon asics hidden deep in the pyramids of Egypt.

Easter Egg Coin. EEG. This coin will have good adoption and everyone likes it. However it was all programmed by some reclusive guy in assembly language who disappeared 2 years ago saying "Good luck after 20.5 million...". I hope he meant well...

Regulated Coin. RC. Run by avalon ASICs at the IRS. Transaction fee is mandatory and equivalent to sales tax based on your IP address. All transactions have a bit to indicate whether for terrorist intentions or not. If a 0, then not for terrorist purposes. If a 1, then it is for terrorist purposes. If a 1, then the transaction fee is much higher and rumor has it that the military gets a bigger cut.

I trust my life savings to the core bitcoin devs coin. ITMLSTTCBDC. This coin requires a religious devotion to the devs who have a power to turn your coin inside out though rewrites to the algorithm and protocol. Insufficient devotion (likes on facebook) may result in the blockchain being rewritten with nasty messages about you.

Homeland Security Coin. HSC. 20% goes to HS. Mt Gox throws in 10% as well to keep things running smooth.

EDIT 05/16/13

Scamcoin. SCC. This is a great coin for trades across the bitcointalk forums. You send first. Scamcoin can also be traded to boost bitcointalk member status.

Awesome coin. AC. This is a clone of Royal Coin but has a better name and will therefore be more successful.

EDIT 05/16/13

ShitcoinCoin. Holding green was so yesterday. Brown is the new color of money.

Yeah Coin. YEC. This coin is immune to ASICs, Quantum computers, GPUs, Cores, Hyperthreading, CPUs, Transistors and Vacuums. It only recognizes rhymed couplets as proof of work that sufficiently resemble the works of Shakespeare. People started doing this manually but it became inefficient. Now thousands of monkeys have been diverted from the task of the infinite monkey theorem to mining Yeah Coin. Hell Yeah!

EDIT 05/18/13

Universe Coin. UVC Based on World Coin but operates on a larger scale. Transactions complete in 14.9 seconds so it will be the fastest. Rumor has it Martians premined but they are gullible for Scamcoin so good deals to be made.

DSC. Double spend coin. Spend your coins as many times as you want for a while. Transactions in 2 seconds.

I feel dizzy, too many alt coins.

This is nothing.  I've been doing research and apparently it's relevantly easy to start your own coin.  Success is not that easy but your own coin is not difficult as "Santoshi" did the math and physics part, which was the brilliant and difficult part.

Now one just copies the bitcoin client, tweaks it, writes some new code for I forget which part and releases it.

Therefore I predict we will go from today's dozen or so coins on Vircurex to at least 100 in the next 12 months and it could get as high as 300 within 2 years.

The good:  lots of coins to mine for next to free if you have a good rig.  And also, each new coin makes improvements by building and improving on the flaws and strengths of the latter and thus eventually a near flawless, new super digital coin will be born which will give rise to true and efficient digital currencies and real cryptostock model, although in the end only a handful will survive as is the case in any new industry.

But this is all digital so it won't take 40 years but more like 2-5 years. Which in turn means millions can be made at "digital" speeds, speed of light, and I mean that quite literally.  There has never been anything like this where millions will be made in a matter of weeks or months by those who got in early and have the nerves of steel to not sell for that key $100,000 where most people feel rich and pull the trigger.

The bad:  it will be very hard to pick the next winner as time goes on and the field gets littered and so devcoin has a small window of opportunity in which to get noticed, get ahead and show it has an actual business plan, something no other digital currency has right now, thus, making it the first true CryptoStock.

And as far as that goes the guys running devcoin are making all the right moves, especially given their very limited budget.  Imagine devcoin with a fraction of the value of bitcoin, it would take over the planet with its current business plan.

And if real investors (wallstreet) ever get the taste for blood in their mouths for cryptostocks, you can bet they'll first accumulate devcoin and then do what wallstreet does best, pump it and spin it into an oblivion of riches most on these boards have never dreamed of.

Hold your devcoins as long as you can as I see things turning and changing very quickly and it should start to appear evident in the next few months, 3-6 months is my feeling.

Good luck!

Regards,

Vlad

Finshaggy, definitely add IXcoin as its identical to bitcoin, except it fully matures much sooner, with only a max of 21 million coins when it fully matures much earlier than bitcoin, in 2015 I think.

Ixcoin shouldn't be at 1 penny while other coins with 15 times as many coins like feather coin (380 Million coins) sells for 10 to 12 times more.  The only reason it's cheap is cause the developer premined like 580,000 coins but he's gone so ixCoin should be valued in line with other coins.

Edit:  finshaggy, add in the devcoin video that devcoin is "arguably" the most widely held global digital currency and it is the first real CryptoStock which has now turned from a pure digital currency into a real and growing business with paid employees all over the world and growing revenues while no other digital currency that I could find is even talking about a business plan or employees working to bring it awareness and revenues.  That is a major selling point as it adds real value to an otherwise worthless crypto coin.

Not sure about the accuracy of the DGC entry in the 1st post:

Quote
-DGC DigitalCoin- preannouced for 23rd as diff 1, but than suddenly launched on 20th with 0.00024 diff

The pre-anounce thread is here from Sun May 19th.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=209508.0

It announcement says the coin is to be launched on Monday the 20th and it was. I was waiting for it and started mining within minutes of the link to the binaries appearing in the thread.

The pre-announcement also says:

Quote
Difficulty: Starts at 0.00024414 - It will take 6-8 difficulty adjustments (or ~13000 blocks) to reach desired difficulty of 1
