I don't trade coins though but I assume its less risky to stick to the coins that are already on top and has been traded regularly.

The best thing to do is to research everything about the coin you are interested before investing because not every coin in the market does have the potential to grow in the future and it might one of the cause for you to lose a huge amount of capital.
