If you're going to use the wallet for amounts over 0.1 BTC, do not use a web wallet. You do not control your bitcoins in a web wallet,, the company that holds your private key does.

I would personally recommend electrum, google it for its features

And if you want to use a wallet for amounts over 10 BTC, I'd recommend you use a hardware wallet like trezor

I would say Bitcoin Core.
Look at their documentation for more information about them.

As far as ai know only offline wallet and bitcoin core is the best wallet that i heard from some opinion here.. but honestly some online web wallet also good if just want to earn bitcoin but if you want to hold for long term its better to use offline wallet and bitcore. or blockchain.. for security purposes you can set 2fa in block chain.. so that your account is too far from hackers..

I dont think that all web wallet are not like this in coinbase and xapo their is 2fa security with this you can control your bitcoins and this two exchanges are very old and reputed exchanges with good support

For desktop Electrum is good even i am using this desktop wallet and its very fast and secure.

I have never tried hardware wallet , hhahahha as i never got above 1 btc because i use bitcoins in my daily life just like fiat currency.

I'm not talking about their reputation , support etc. Fact is , they have your private keys hence they are the ones in control of the bitcoins not you. They just grant you the permission to communicate to their server and use the BTC you have saved. Which can change at any time

You have heard of Mt gox , cryptsy and lots of other 'reputed' exchanges right?

Ok..... What about Bitcoinwallet.com cos as a newbie have signup for bitvest campaign and I have register for bitcoinwallet. Do you think is ok keep my btc there in the meantime?
You should not use web wallets for any significant amount, if thats what you're asking. Downloading and running your own wallet is really easy you know

Yes that's right. But without web nothing is possible. So completely getting into offline mode is not good. To stand away from hackers it's better to have their apps downloaded and used only when required and other time keep it offline.

What? No! Thats not what I said or meant
But without web nothing is possible.
It is, how is this on point anyway. I'm talking about online services that require you to not be in control of your private key, not internet in general
So completely getting into offline mode is not good.
It very is. Saving your Bitcoins on a cold-storage, that has no connection to internet or any network in general will make it near impossible for anyone to stea your bitcoins remotely. Add that with encryption and voila, you're safe
To stand away from hackers it's better to have their apps downloaded and used only when required and other time keep it offline.
I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here, to comment on it

Download and install Bitcoin core if you want to run a node and contribute to the network. But if you don't want to go through the hassle of syncing the recent blocks, download electrum

So, electrum is just as running my own wallet?

I really like Bitcoin Core, but if you want the most convenient wallet, then I would definitely recommend blockchain.info or coinbase.

Both of them are unsafe option and you are not in control of your bitcoins. The companies just give you the permission to use the BTC, that you stored. With the first being prone to phishing attempts

Yes I was always using Multibit because of that, also the blockchain downloads really quick on that one!
But I've also downloaded Electrum, Because people here said it was the best wallet I also downloaded it.
I must say that wallet is also nice, and it has 2 factor authentication which is also good for protection of your Bitcoins!
