If you look at it like that, i think the percentage of people who lost money is greater than those who had been richer by gambling. But being already rich definitely adds fun to gambling as you would have a bigger capital and losing won't hurt that much compared to if you only have enough money to start with.

That is true. Most of the VIP's are the sharks with big bankroll, not just the rich as general. Reason is that, there are many rich people in brick and mortar casinos that are playing for fun, socialization, and networking yet, they are not treated as VIP's because they just play minimal and their real intention is not to play but to network as to compared to sharks that only purpose is to gamble.
