Many people in the community are saying that Ethereum will eventually overcome bitcoin.

I don't actually believe that it could be happening, but would like to hear your opinions.

Please explain your answer!

I see its now down, it used Ethereum to be at 0.032 BTC, now is at 0.023 BTC, I don't think it will overcome bitcoin and the decision to go to POS led to this price decrease and I think it has now no more chances to compete with bitcoin.

Yes btc is unique despite ethereum and it's really difficult (read impossible) they can overcome on btc.

probably this is another bubble, good for traders and pumpers Wink

"many people" are not saying that, a handful of people who invested in the premine are saying that to create hype so they can dump their coins at very high price and retire

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

they say also eventually so never mind...
this look as good experiment not so much and I guess people make only a "bet" and nothing so much.
In btc there is also a political view of monetary system that is stronger than a new algorithm.

I dont think so.
Eth has worse problems on scalability than BTC.
How so? If it moves to a stable proof of stake and survives fine, then scalability should be significantly better than Bitcoin.

Anyone who says that Ethereum will beat out Bitcoin in the crypto economy are probably not very well versed in the various advantages or disadvantages of the different cryptos.

Bitcoin is very solidly the "gold" of the digital space, and Ethereum is the silver, in my opinion, and it will stay like this for a while. Eth has it's uses, but Bitcoin is more versatile and user-friendly overall.

For what I remember a similar link is between litecoin and bitcoin.
So bitcoin is the only coin, I say only because ethereum seems more a new block chain, an evolution of itself, where the coin is "a part" or part of it, yes fundamental, but the really advantages are from a new chain, new block idea.
nothing that btc itself can do it with an app or site linked (like btc graffiti or direct bet to be more clear)

I have no problem for Ethereum to go PoS. But it should be PoW mined for a few years to distribute the coins.

I actually think that there is a lot of space for both. Since Ethereum offers other features that bitcoin can't offers and vice-versa. Bitcoin is more as a currency while Ethereum is more a smart contract coding platform, so, there will always be a market industry to satisfy the demand of both cryptos.

That is also what I think. These two coins are complementary.  I hold both to benefit from future adoption.

It could be true. As long as bitcoin evolve all the time, no other coin can replace bitcoin in the medium term.

Asking this question in bitcoin forum, you will get opinion strongly lean towards bitcoin.
If you in Ethereum forum, I guess people will trash Bitcoin there.

The halving could double the price of bitcoin. If the block size increase to 2MB or higher and the price will be even higher.

The halving could reduce the supply of the bitcoin. If we have the mass adoption, that will increase the price.

How can you even start to match a coin like bitcoin, here for a long time vs a coin that's just there.
ETH has some great potential I agree with that. But comparing it to bitcoin after 1 pump.. like reallY?

Bitcoin is the father of all alt coins. No other coins can beat it for sure. The only lack from bitcoin is the fact that we can make it as an instant transaction. We have to wait for at least 1 confirmation to be able to use it at any purposes.

Never compare bitcoin and dollar, Bitcoin and other altcoins. This is pointless, everything at the end leads
to bitcoins or dollars. People don't care for digital money..  Smiley Now someone will attack me, i know.

Bitcoin is king here so nothing will surpass it unless you purchase alot in any alternate coin you will say the same. Until one that can prove it's self worthy in value then it will keep to the top of every coin holder's wish list to have.

Eth and Lisk are good opportunities only for traders, but for long run don't even consider them as some kind of competitors to the Bitcoin. This is only hype and people are overjoyed with pump, but this is normal thing when pump starts.

The Ethereum has much bigger develop team. It has more chances to succeed than the lisk or other altcoins.

all those people who are saying Ethereum will "replace" bitcoin are either delusional or they are trying desperately to spread as much FUD they an in order to push the price higher to unload their bags that they are holding and get out faster.

I liked Ethereum project once, it seemed so cool but never believed success of EHT means death of bitcoin that is just stupid. there is relationship between these two facts.
and now all the FUD and the fake hype will create a lot of angry investors who believed those things and now are facing the reality.

I think yes, the ethereum will one day reach to a height and will have the price same as now bitcoin. There are ore people to support ethereum as they are feeling interest in there.

Ethereum will not be a new bitcoin, it is just a coin related to a "trading platform". A platform can also be built to use bitcoin.

such thing will never happen, and i don't even know why they are insisting on it. even if ethereum or any other altcoin someday could become big and popular there is no reason why bitcoin should still be used and remain popular.
besides the price will show soon what will happen to eth.

you can't compare bitcoin with ethereum , each one of them has it's own positives and negatives
but what I'm sure about is that nothing can replace bitcoins at least in the value , bitcoins will always be the boss of other coins maybe like gold in our real life
in the future we may see many things happen , new coins will come and go but btc will never lose the value

I think so. The bitcoin is a base currency and can be used in many places. The Ethereum is a smart contract platform.

That might well be. True: a lot of us are soured by the Bitcoin bubble of '13 and '14, but I would not count Bitcoin out. Granted the the block-size-controversy dysfunctionality has hobbled its new bull market, but it has turned around. $430 is a lot higher than $200.

The block size increase controversy gives us 5 months of chance to buy the bitcoin on the cheap. So it is good for me.

There is no chance for Ethereum because Bitcoin is more stronger crypto currency, i think to make compare bitcoin with that kind of shit coin it doesn't make any sense, in many ways ethereum would take so many years to get a stable way and at the moment it is just an experiment and nothing more than that.

Bitcoin has been around for years. Bitcoin is the center of exchange of all alt coins. For example, if you want to convert your ETH to LISK, then you have to convert it to BTC first. ETH >> BTC >> LISK.

All alt coins have to go with this drill if they want to convert their alt coins to another alt coin. Not sure though why people are comparing ETH vs BTC. The price, the popularity, the stability and the time they are on, all goes to bitcoin. Bitcoin has a lot of use compared to alt coins.

Trading alt coins to BTC may be better than trading BTC >> USD but that doesn't mean that an alt coin will simply surpass the power of BTC.

bitcoin has always been around and it is useful. and there is a lot of services that are using it, so a lot of people will turn into bitcoin if they want to use a cryptocurrency. and this situation will only grow as the time passes.
what ethereum offers is not what normal users (average joe) wants, so even if it gets bigger it will never reach dust of bitcoin.

I find ethereum completely different than bitcoin in terms of its use. Ethereum is created for keeping only smart contracts in mind which need ethereum to create thats why whenever new smart contracts are created based on ethereum price will keep on rising as deamand will be high. You can take DAO ico token sell as an example for current pump in ethereum where as bitcoin is purely meant to be payment method and only payment method.

If the world economy growth is 2% a year and the supply growth of Ethereum is 1% a year, it is still a deflationary currency.

That is caused by the bad fiat policy. Too much money around and crash the economy. With bitcoin and Ethereum, it will be different.

So I think the Ethereum can live independently. It can be used in smart contract system by many people.

The DAO is a smart contract... One that I had the misfortune of becoming ensnared in. So far, my experience with both ETH and the DAO has been unsatisfactory. I'm surprised there are not a whole lot more of these tokens/smart contracts coming out of the woodwork. With such few lines of code needed to implement a smart contract, I would think these scam tokens/"smart??" contracts would be multiplying like cockroaches. These poor DAO people. Now every time they want to vote, they have to make sure their coffers are filled up with ETH for the gas. They can't even use their DAO to pay the gas, like it works with any regular cryptocurrency. They must buy ETH. No wonder most of the curators of the DAO are also big names for the ETH.
For me, I think Bitcoin will always be ahead of ETH. Pretty soon, there is going to be s great deal of smart contracts bloating the ETH blockchain. The vast majority of these smart contracts/tokens are going to be absolute shit. It's going to be a bloated mess that will be in desperate need of an enema.

If ETH isn't a currency, then I suppose that this is the wrong place to advertise is it? Although you can say that about some of the altcoins in the market.

eth are tokens for the ethereum smart contract (highly experimental buggy) platform. It's not a currency it's a token to execute smart contracts inside ethereums bloated network. There is a difference and there's no sense in comparing them. Anyone saying eth is a currency (like bitcoin, dash, etc) is either a pumper/hodler or a n00b who doesn't know the difference.

There are more money invested in the bitcoin related infracstructure. That could also help the adoption of Ethereum.
