If i were in desperate need for money i will find sideline job in just one day so that you can get immediately money. There are plenty an extra job if you are willing to earn easily money like investment. Maybe i borrowed money for my relatives and i will paid it for having extra money. But the best is you can invest and earn in bitcoin, you need to research and study about bitcoin so that you have an knowledge and idea in bitcoin.

Desperate means that you need money immediately and if I'm in that dire situation I have no choice but to take some of my mBTC's and will probably sell it. I will not be thinking anymore with the current price so in that situation I can re-solved my desperate need for money. And if that is still enough I'll ask my friends or sell some of my stuffs.

Include those who were addicted to gambling.  When desperate times arise, they do anything to have money.  They will sell all their possessions including those owned by his family.  When you are addicted to any vices it always ends to people do anything whether it is legal or not.

Yes everyone needs to be good in financial matters, handling and management. And those people who are able to have a better financial stability they are the ones who will not think about any ways to get money in times of desperation because they are prepared about it and they have a back up funds where they can pull some of their balance.

If ever the time comes that I'm urgently needing a money like emergencies, I simply get or just spend the money I saved. I am the type of person that always saves money so in times of need I have no or less worries to where I am going to get some money. It is something like my " back up " . I also have the same thoughts as you, they are in despair and need money, it also means they need immediate and they certainly did not have time to think about signature campaigns, they can only borrow money from banks or friends to solve this problem immediately.
