And some news from Cryptopia:

"If you held balances in coins that were lost in the event you will start to see Withdraws on your account for those coins. The TXID for the withdraw will not exist on the network but will detail how the coin was impacted in the event. For each withdraw you will also see a subsequent deposit of Cryptopia Loss Marker(CLM), the TXID for this will also not exist on a network but will detail the coin it represents a loss for. CLM is not a coin, it can't be traded as yet, it is just a number in the database that represents the loss for each coin for each user in $NZD at the time of the event. There are still steps to take to ensure we are taking a legal path toward reimbursement."

At least they are trying, but I think it will take them a while to regain the traction they now lost because of this breach of trust.

Oh yes, I think it will!!

Don't know. It's not easy to forget about that. If you were a customer there and lost funds once, would you want to risk it again?

Oh, that's what I meant, tiCeR. It will be an uphill battle for Topia to regain trust (certainly if they continue to communicate as poorly as they have thus far!!).

Other exchanges have recovered from hacks in the past, but I think it will be tougher to do now than it has been some years ago. Too many other options out there.

Great point. I recently had a little scratch around a re-opened CEX: same clumsy design as previously; middling communication from those in charge; and maxi-Verification (because they're in the EU). Not very encouraging.

If you don't have to use a new one, stick with those you have positive experience with. I gave some CEXs a try here and there with little money, and some of them just disappeared. Not talking big amounts here, but still it's not worth a try unless there is sufficient evidence that it's legit.

I traded on Nova for some time -- and 'made' the 42 market there -- but I couldn't quite get the ID necessary for Verification.

Support is good. The set up is just a little clunky. And we must perhaps give 'them' time to gain traction because 'them' is the new owners.

Bitcoin is rising nicely in price. Let's see what pattern 42 and other alts follow: usually they dip at first; but if the rise in price continues solidly, they may increase strongly.

No news from the Vz Guys for over a fortnight. Hoping to get a message soon.

'Hi, my good friend! I pass by here to greet you and leave you my best wishes, you have a special place in my heart. Excuse me for my long absence, Venezuela is still deteriorating, the connection cables have been stolen again in my house and this time they do not seem to be repaired, they also take away the electric service 12 hours a day. I'm where my sister, I'll stay here a couple of days, I hope I can write to you tomorrow, Greetings and blessings from a friend.'

This message came from the Venezuelans today.

Got a tiny bit of volume back on XBTS. We should drive volume here, on our DEX.

Hey, tiCeR.

'I came across people discussing about Nova exchange here and there, but just don't have any experience with them, hence the question.'

I finished trading there only weeks ago: don't have sufficient docs to pass the KYC/AML. But here is my review:

Nova changed hands last year. Was off-line for months. New owners began slowly re-opening earlier this year. They're Swedish, I think, so full cavity-search KYC/AML. I had Special Status for some time because I was an existing account holder. It seeeeeeemed that there'd be a little low-volume 'niche' that didn't require full KYC. But no.

Support was patient. Answered my questions cheerily.

Big Picture?? IMHO all crypto communities need to, at this point, see their suites of exchanges as divided into four parts, and balance the development of those parts. Certainly that is what is happening in the IndiaMikeZulu/DLX alliance:

One: old-fashioned CEXes, almost all now Total KCY/AML

Two: DEXes that are not anonymous -- like Cryptobridge -- which have the same KYC/AML requirements(!!).

Three: fully anonymous DEXes -- XBTS?? We all gotta pile in there!!

Four: p2p, which means developing trust with fiddly little in-house trades

Collapse of Cryptopia

In a way, I'm glad to see it gone! Now we understand our position:

One active dev

Two a range of exchanges -- even if some need improving. One exchange is a DEX: XBTS. We need to get volume on this one.

Three It is likely -- though we are not yet sure -- that the 'crypto winter' is over. Certainly the global financial situation is just getting slowly worse -- good for cryptos. Great for a deflationary crypto.

Four I have some dev funds for Laser next month.

Altcoin Prices in Coming Months

Guys, two things generally happen. One: if Bitcoin rips up in price for a day or two, many folks will dump their altcoins, and jump on the passing Bitcoin wagon: altcoin prices go down,

And the second thing is: if Bitcoin begins to rip up in price, and then continues to increase, the altcoins – after first dipping in price, as described above -- will roar up in price even further.

But perhaps the pattern this time – the end of the Second Crypto Winter – will be a little different because the tightening of KYC/AML on centralised exchanges has taken some of the ‘Wild West’ out of crypto markets. Bitcoin is trending upwards, but it’s not a ‘rip.’ So altcoin prices are sort of going sideways.

But if Bitcoin continues to steadily rise in price, that will bring capital back to cryptos overall, and altcoins will benefit.

Hey, Tinno.

We relaunched a couple of years ago, with Lasergun as our dev. For me the attraction is the actual deflation.
Meanwhile, the second crypto winter has been hard on most cryptos. We held our value extremely well for a time, then settled to a lower level, where we have recently been satisfyingly solid.

We have a sufficient suite of exchanges -- with a DEX -- but Cryptopia's collapse has been a loss.

IMHO we have a year or two of hard work ahead of us, but as the financial crisis choofs along, people will look for hard-core deflationary "instruments".
