A long term Bitcoin investment for me could be as little as 10 years or as long as 30 years or possibly more. In 30 years, if Bitcoin survives, it could be worth $50,000 to $100,000 per Bitcoin.

But keep in mind that over 10 years, the prediction actually become like impossible. For the other thing, if it survives, the price between $10,000 and $50,000 would not be a surprise.

I dont think Bitcoin will survive more than 10 years if the situation continue like this and the possible prediction of price at that time will not be more than 50000$. Its on the 16mil mark right now and the maximum is 21mil as everyone know so that 5-10 years max.

one year is enough for us to hold our Bitcoin. You can sell it and start another holding process by buying Bitcoin when the price is cheap. Many people have succeeded with this way and I doubt that you can fail. Only hold Bitcoin in more than 5 years when you have a good capital.

Let's say you bought 1 BTC last january 2014, you would have paid around 620€. One year after, your BTC dropped to less than 200€, not a good deal !

Point is that you only lose when you sell your coins at a price lower than where you bought them at. If you don't sell you don't lose anything. If you know what you do, then in your given example the best option would be to use that €200 price to start buying as many coins as possible to average down the buying price of your initial investment. Only noobs cash out their coins with such insane losses as result....
That scenario is a pointer to the fact that long term Bitcoin investment is not necessarily determined by length of time, but by the positive difference between the current price and price at the time of purchase. Evidently the technology is still evolving and the right thing to do is not to conclude all too soon what the future holds for something that is still taking shape. To that effect, following the developments in the market and the industry would serve as better guide to what decisions an investor takes.

It depends on the targets you set for yourself. If your goal is to buy at $1000 and to sell at $2000 where you approach it as a long term investment, then it can be seen as such until your goal is met. If the price happens to hit $2000 6 months later, your goal is met and thus you can close your position. From there a planned long term investment indeed doesn't mean it's really long term.

For me personally I don't really focus on targets at this point, but put confidence in what Bitcoin has to offer in the long term. I make sure I benefit from short term fluctuations to increase the number of coins that I have, while on the other side I keep my cold wallet coins until I see prices of at least $10,000 per coin. And then I will just cash out a certain portion, definitely not everything. I want to remain holding a good portion of my wealth in Bitcoin.

Come on man, thousand of years for bitcoin is too much. Bitcoin has a limited supply and always remember that it has a halving event where its supply is decreasing and the mining difficulty is increasing so a thousand years for bitcoin to survive is just like a fantasy. Even hundred years for bitcoin is still too much. Be realistic and don't expect too much in bitcoin.

In traditional investments, long term is most often considered to be a minimum of 5 years. But bitcoin seems to live its life in hyper drive, hence the question to the bitcoin world, what is long term to the average bitcoin investor?
Actually the hold of bitcoin by anyone for the year is a matter to hold and sell Because the buy and sell for small time or one year even may not give the big change it is because the net gain in the stability in the price of the bitcoin can be see after 3-4 years , so here most of the big bitcoiners hold Thier bitcoin for long times , and mostly hold for 3 years atleast ( this is my opinion to get Profit that I seen in my life )

Mathematically the mining process of all bitcoins (100% of them, 21 million bitcoins) will end between the years, 2135-2145. But, this is not important. If you ask why, let's look at this below:

in 2028, 98.4% of total bitcoins,
in 2032, 99.2% of total bitcoins,
in 2036, 99.6% of total bitcoins,
in 2040, 99.8% of total bitcoins,
in 2044, 99.9% of total bitcoins,
in 2048, 99.95% of total bitcoins
will have mined by us.

You might get a lot of people that say less than 5 years but in reality regardless of the currency real profit only comes after at least 5 years and I would say 10.

Three years basically not holding money, 6 is not even enough to consider saving. You could probably make some profit after 3 years if there wasn’t a temporary decline but on average if you want your investment to be worthwhile IMHO you should wait at least 5 and ideally at least 10 years.

There is no point in believing that bitcoin is something eternal, indestructable.
The supply of 21 mil BTC does not neccesarily means that all people on the world will kill the other human being just to get a piece of a cake.
Indeed it is limited, but there is no reason why bitcoin cannot be beaten by some altcoin.

For now, it is mostly about how bitcoin is recognized.
Many people have heard about this specified cryptocurrency, but not about the others, but in 10 years, the most society may know what cryptocurrencies are, so it will be about which cryptocurrency has the best technology to offer.

Personally, I think that bitcoin might be beaten by more anonymous currency, which will provide very fast confirmations and also small fees to reduce the costs of transactions.

For me I think it depend on the money and financial status of the investor if the investor will have more money and he will not need to withdraw his money for his needs then he can invest for years and if the investor will need his money for his needs then he will put them for shorter time and that will be his long term

It would be similar to the traditional definition for most bitcoin investors.

Cryptocurrencies are going to change the world much like the auto and airplane changed travel! Cool

~~

In my opinion, long term bitcoin buyers or investor rather are about  five to ten years in the business. A minimum of five years could already be considered as long term. The longer you wait, the higher profit you’d have.
