Short answer: You can, but you shouldn't.

Long answer: Poloniex is one of the exchanges that have agreed to distribute ARDR to their users. But there are many possibilities it could go wrong. NXT on an exchange are only IOUs, and ARDR assets are the same. So if the exchange goes bankrupt (until October it's much time in the altcoin exchange world) you wouldn't see anything.

Another possible problem is that if you trade the NXT in the snapshot period, then it is possible that the exchange will calculate the ARDR the wrong way. That must not even be caused by bad intentions: Let's suppose you have a trading bot that trades small price swings, and it just happens that at most of the hourly snapshot intervals you are "in fiat". The exchange could then say "Ah, but you didn't have NXT at the moment of the hourly snapshot.", and they would be totally right to not distribute you the amount of ARDR you expected.

Snapshots will start be taken on an hourly basis, starting on July 14th to October 12th. Then, your total NXT will be averaged, and you'll receive that amount in Ardor tokens on October 12th, which will be freely tradeable up until the Ardor system launches.

i don't have to forge to make this happen, right?

btw: is there a way / tool to calculate forging revenue?

Ardor looks really interesting. Will surely keep an eye on this. Good thing was already able to buy NXT tokens when it was cheaper.

Forging is not necessary to be eligible for ARDR tokens. You can even keep your NXT on Poloniex and still get ARDR. But setting up your own wallet is recommended due to potential failure of centralized exchanges.

The forging revenue depends on how many of the 999 million coins are forging, how many coins you are forging with and how many transaction fees are paid in the block you forge. You can calculate your probability of forging a block. But you cannot know in advance how many fees will be in this block. If somebody issues an asset in the block you forge, you get 1000 NXT. But if there are no transactions in your block, you get 0 NXT.

The more users the higher the forging revenue.

So is it safe to assume that Ardor will be listed in Poloniex exchange? I hope it will be because Poloniex is the biggest altcoin exchange right now.

Has anyone at Ardor looked at what Steem.it is doing with rewarding articles and upvotes? The NXT framework looks like it could support something similar with UIA.

I didn't like the way Steem launched, I do like what it's doing to attract outsiders that know Reddit style commenting and abilty to get paid for that contribution. Since Ardor seems to be focused on real world business, it would be a great addition.
