Can anyone explain the difference between ARDR and IGNIS? They seem like they are 2 projects of the same thing.

Actually IGNIS is a child chain of ARDOR, which is the network... oh wait: Ardor is going to be the network when NEXT disappears, which will be shortly after the NEXT network is forked to become ARDOR...

In reality it is quite simple: It is all the same thing, iterations of the same thing. Implementations of some new improvements, scalability and features, but the exact same thing... they simply call it different things to be able to sell it as different things. And guess what? It is working like magic ... for them, the "team".

Keep an eye of the dumping of NXT already in progress (but nothing compared to what's coming as it goes obsolete). Fascinating.

I'll suggest you to read Ignis ICO whitepaper at https://www.jelurida.com/sites/default/files/JeluridaWhitepaper.pdf and check https://www.jelurida.com/resources

Yeah, follow martismartis advice instead. He'll have you convincdn the moon is within reach. Me, on the other hand, will continue telling you that in the real universe, not only NXT/ARDR has been recently halved (in BTC), but will be much, much, MUCH lower.

Because, frankly, there's no value of any significance there. At all. At least not value that can be compared to about 50 other alts either fully developed or in advanced stage of development be people who pass much more mustard than this "team" of schemers.

I don't care about your financial advice  Roll Eyes

I asked about the differences between ARDR, IGNIS and NXT.

I just need a quick 1 or 2 sentence summary to clear things up. If both coins are NXT 2.0, then what are the differences between both of them?

I don't need the IGNIS whitepaper, just a quick summary of their differences. It'll help me and others who are also wondering the same thing.

Ardor will have limited functionality. the main purpose is to forge the blocks for the main chain and the child chains. it's the backbone of the system. There will be a "pruning" functionality to keep the blockchain small.
Ignis will have all the features that NXT has, such as transferring coins, sending messages, creating aliases, asset exchange and so on.

Both Ardor and Ignis work together as the solution for "NXT 2.0"  Ardor will be the main chain and Ignis will be the 1st child chain.  Ignis will port nearly 100% of the state of NXT over to its genesis via a snapshotting process.

Fees on Ignis will be VERY low.  Fees on Ardor will be pretty high.  This allows the system to prune heavily on Ignis, solving the blockchain bloat issue that has plagued every other cryptocurrency out there.  The main chain Ardor will secure the rest of the network (all child chains).

I think the real question of most newbies is "why there are two tokens, are they necessary"? The essence of the difference between ARDR and IGNIS is that ARDR manages the "consensus layer" - it's the coin in which forging rewards are paid, like @Münzpräger already wrote, while IGNIS is the "payment layer".

The IGNIS transactions can be pruned after 1440 blocks have been validated - only the balances are stored. But they are "secured" by the ARDR chain - every IGNIS payment is inserted in the ARDR chain and validated by all nodes for 1440 blocks.

The reason for the division into two "coins" (ARDR and IGNIS) is simple: This "two-layer design" helps to keep the blockchain small because the large majority of transactions can be pruned because they occur on "child chains" like IGNIS. The advantage is really large - compared to "old NXT", about 30 times as many transactions can be stored within a blockchain of the same size.

Regular users won't have to deal with or see Ardor. All the fancy Nxt features will be on Ignis.
And with a basic transaction fee of 10 Ardor, trading Ardor on-chain will be rather expensive.

Do you mean "stake" (receive block rewards for minting via maintaining your balance/wallet online)?

Ardor works basically like NXT, so Proof of Stake "forging" will be possible, but you won't get proper block rewards but transaction fees. So the more Ardor is used, the more coins you'll receive. I think I read Ardor will also get the "leased forging" feature from NXT which allows smaller "stakers" to get rewards. Another way to get money is "bundling" child chain transactions in one transaction for the main chain. But all these features will only become active once the Ardor main chain starts in November or December.
