Christmas Xaurum Hack Report

Order is restored. The hack was unhacked.

Results of our hack analysis can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GuSK4DwahHVxJVuZBwno2tnwJ-X6YIDxHCF3Fp7A998/edit?usp=sharing

Nearly all of the stolen funds have been retreived and the funds on exchanges (Bittrex and C-CEX) are frozen.
Some of the funds were dumped before our actions, and the users will be compensated.

- 18.58 M XAUR stolen (approximate value 1.4 M $).

- The attacker sent 17.58 M XAUR to his addresses at 2:28 CET
on:

0x0eb8fb894a58e67a238d8065e6f8d70690f5a290            999999.5 XAUR

0x3dba2e569559a5f1cc5a21f3106ec46f3640e301           8597998.5 XAUR

0x78134661e27962d6f84e5e2dcdd356acb462b0d1          7499999.5 XAUR

0xa6c20f2f035b402bd2700901e23970df3ce607b7             499999.5 XAUR

verify on https://etherscan.io/token/xaurum

- 499,999.50 XAUR sent to Bittrex at  03:49 CET

- 499,999.50 XAUR sent to C-CEX at 09:56 CET

- Markets closed at 10.30 CET

- The blockchain was stopped at 10.40 CET https://etherscan.io/tx/0x63ed1f857d1293115f0c4cae3fea401341052e77601e027d480c4d834d879488

- Finding a solution 11:00 - 14:00 CET

- Theft analysis 15:00 - 16:00 CET

- Solution testing 14:00 - 17:00 CET

- Waiting on opportune moment 17:00 - 00:30 CET

- 17.58 M XAUR was retreived by Xaurum Team at 00:37 CET

The remainder of the stolen funds are frozen on the attacker's account on exchanges.

We have contacted the authorities and will provide them with our gathered data.

Markets will reopen as soon as we can arrange that the funds on C-CEX will remain frozen.

The balances on the chain have been restored to their legitimate order and users will be able to transact as soon as the markets start.

The attacker tried to extort us on email with the email tgarfield@bk.ru and via pm on bitcointalk as the user MarkedlySuperior.

We'd like to thank Bittrex, C-CEX, Livecoin on their amazing support on a holiday.

Merry Christmas,
Xaurum Team

I don't understand, if ethereum transactions are confirmed, and this time eth has no hard fork, how can you retrieve the hacked fund? How did you freeze the fund? I am very curious

Well the hacked funds are on an address on Bittrex, Bittrex can prevent this address from outputing transactions I guess, like if your bank froze your bank account ... For the recovering part, either the hacker is found and they return the funds or either Bittrex has the ability to transfer Xaurs from that address once the authorities permit it. (Just my hypothesis.)

According to the team, half of it was dumped on c-cex, and the other half is on an address on Bittrex that is frozen.

The price seems to be recovering a bit, some might think Bitcoin will rally so sell orders are unavoidable I think.

By the way, does anyone have an idea on why wallets on c-cex and Bittrex are in maintenance, are there issues with synchronization or something?

...what puzzles me is the fact that theres still ongoing trading on Bittrex and C-Cex, although accounts and wallets are supposedly in maintenence.
So, who is trading there then?

I dont mind this, seeing the price actually corrected itself upwards however I dont like not being able to participate myself (Bittrex)

2ndly, some accounts that are able to buy on exchages could have gotten in very cheaply - almost at ICO prices.

When wallets are in maintenance, you just can neither withdraw nor deposit. As per trading, these are just numbers, transactions aren't actually made, so if you have a Xaur balance, then your balance value is used to enable trading but you actually don't have the funds until you request a withdrawal. That is my guess, like in a bank account, your money isn't actually there, it's just a number ...

Well you can transfer BTC and exchange it for Xaur and vice versa, yet you can't transfer Xaur, you can half participate Smiley.

2ndly, some accounts that are able to buy on exchages could have gotten in very cheaply - almost at ICO prices.

When the hacker dumped on c-cex the price plummeted to 1k, it's like 5 times less than ICO price, I don't know how much was sold for that though. When trading resumed on c-cex you could've gotten it (so it was possible even if the wallet was in maintenance) for ICO prices and less.

Well, it is a great example of XAUR and Bittrex are professional teams, although the hacker hacked huge amount of money, the team did the best to prevent damage.

They said it was already fixed but bittrex wallet still is under maintenance.  This is actually a good time to buy Xaur as price is cheap, if bittrex is open it will help its economy.

BTC bubble bursting! Happy new year Tongue

So I wonder how this will affect XAUR - I suspect BTC2XAur is positively correlated, hope I'm wrong.

your thoughts?

It was to be expected. Too much too fast. Air is not thick enough.

When the situation gets back to normal (after the hack), Xaurum will hold the value and increase it. I believe in short term it will jump to production price, maybe a bit more.
It should not be correlated to any air pumps on market. At least not more than common sense allows it to be. The only correlation should be bullion gold price.
Buy power and liquidity are coming back in very short timeframe. When this happens the true value will be obvious to the markets as well.

Xaur will rise independent of bitcoin price speculation. Holing Xaur will yield a good profit overtime. Keep it safe.
