It is not the first hack of bitfinex, but it is the second time, and after that I think n one will believe o bitfinex and everyone is going to leave that exchange, I also now do not want to go there.
Yeah right if this is the second time that bitfinex was hacked better to leave and dont deal again in that site so that you can not lose again. if they are hack again. never trust that exchange site because they can repeat what they have done before..

The first hack wasn't a big hit really, i'm sure they in this kind of business they would expect to be hit for smaller amounts. One thing is for sure we know they cant afford (literally) to get hacked again so it might make them a very safe option currently. Things are usually safer post when something unsafe has happened.

I don't know if it is really hacked and they didn't know who are the hackers or they just made it up because it's an inside job and they stole the user's BTC. The users bear the loss and its CEO is nowhere to be found as what I have read in one of the news. The trust of the people in exchanges will not be the same again as it happened also before and the fact that the withdrawals increase upon the open of the exchange again will support it.People should be careful as to where they should put their money/bitcoin and always to spread their funds in several wallets or exchanges to manage risk.
I don't know if it was an inside job but the whole thing does feel a bit too easy, I mean ~$65M was stolen and yet it seems they're ready to forget it ever happened and simply move on. And their "solution" consists of making their users pay for the theft? Imagine if they actually did it, they take ~$65M, take their users' coins to 'fix' things and then carry on normally

thats true, though it is good to see that those problems always get resolved so we dont need to worry about it too much right now I believe they are actually trying to resolve them right now, it may just be PR. Although I have seen some people actually receiving their coins back from bitfinex. They may resume operations yet again, but I doubt people would go and trust them again since their reputation is terribly shattered.

Is this true? Is BFX actually returning coins seized in "socialized loss?" Do you have a source?

Last I heard they refunded the coins, but had everyone take a 36% loss on it, and issued them BFX tokens. Was this a new update after it ?

Fortunately, Bitfinex stole another 10% of users' funds to shield themselves from lawsuits from disgruntled customers. Phil Potter stated this explicitly. So great to see so many Stockholm Syndrome-affected morons running around defending this exchange. Meanwhile, they stole more of your money to fight you in court. Total criminals.

Most frustrating is that Bitfinex socialized the losses between the clients without any permission. Would be fair If there would be an authority to put them back into their place.

Hacks happen every now and then. No exchange site is 100% safe. Almost every exchange site have been hacked at least once in the past. You need to realize that it is a part of the Bitcoin life. The trick is not to store your coins in any of these exchanges. Use exchanges only for trading, and never store your coins there if you don't need to trade them.

I think the people who is responsible for the Bitfinex security should be responsible for the loss. They should compensate the users.

I think the people who is responsible for the Bitfinex security should be responsible for the loss. They should compensate the users. Bitfinex will first think about their losses. Therefore by their users, they will be reimbursed. Of course with cunning will attract new entrants to attract good investors. That's just never believe what they do with it in relation to burglary.

Bitfinex "hired" a start up software company, ledgerlabs.com, to make the financial audit. what a fraud....! another one made by Bitfinex!!!! How can the Bitfinex's clients to allow that? Also, ledgerlabs.com is their friend. A financial auditor must be certified, authorized. A software company cannot ever do a financial audit.

I do not believe that their guilt for what happened there. Their safety should not cause doubt, and always should be monitored, and they are easily hacked and stole a huge sum. And now they want to compensate for losses due to users.

That's what is happening here.

Have they released technicals of the hack? Like how they got hacked...
They avoid any questions asking about technicals of the hack by saying there is an ongoing investigation, and they cannot comment until it's completed. They keep pasting this quote all over reddit in reply to any awkward questions. we cannot release information about an ongoing investigation. After the ongoing investigation there will probably be a court case, and they will again say they cannot comment until it's completed.
