Stratum test on pa.mtred.com:3333
From what i've seen its looking very performant, give it a test and let me know.
Woot! It's running pretty great for me. Looks like it's not updating my stats on the site yet though. Never mind, it's working now.

Excellent I'll give it a go and see if it has nailed the high reject problem. Next stop, vardiff!

Excellent I'll give it a go and see if it has nailed the high reject problem. Next stop, vardiff! Is there a method of setting the difficulty or stratum at diff 1 is all there is? It all has to be implemented on the pool side, be it higher difficulty or variable difficulty, so it's up to redditorrex. As a followup, the stale rate is markedly lower than it used to be, which is great news since that was the main thing keeping me from mining here. Many stratum disconnects would also be a new problem since shares are lost on each disconnect, but so far there have been no disconnects.

I don't think I've ever seen "Stratum disconnect". So just curious.

The story so far after a few hours: Pool: http://pa.mtred.com:3333 Does not have own long-poll support Queued work requests: 253 Share submissions: 9268 Accepted shares: 9263 Rejected shares: 5 Accepted difficulty shares: 9263 Rejected difficulty shares: 5 Reject ratio: 0.1% Efficiency (accepted / queued): 3661% Discarded work due to new blocks: 499 Stale submissions discarded due to new blocks: 2 Unable to get work from server occasions: 1 Submitting work remotely delay occasions: 0
Reject ratio is a little higher than my regular pool, but that pool is also in my local city so a 50ms ping time whereas mtred is 240ms. However I used to get up to 2% rejects on mtred, which stopped me mining here, so this is a ludicrous improvement. Note there is one "Unable to get work from server occasions". That would have been a disconnect which would then have dropped some shares as mentioned in the previous post. At the moment the stats don't show how many of those shares were lost. I'm sure current miners moving over to stratum would dramatically lower the server load. Now if higher diff share submission was added, the load on the server would drop even more and be able to tolerate even asic hashrate submissions.

What's with the high discarded work rate?
Normal, with new blocks you don't keep working on it, you throw it out to not create shares from stale work.

Sounds good, should have done it sooner. I have had to restart it a few times, so thats probably adding a few stales.
I also just replaced the old pushpool server on mtred.com:8837 *the beta port with the new stratum-mining-proxy hotness.
I may also do the same for the main port in a few days, as we are nearing the end redesign of the web frontend.

If you do a traceroute on mtred.com and pa.mtred.com you can see they're actually hosted by different providers. Clearly the provider for mtred.com has chronic problems. Yeah, I was mining on mtred.com:8837 due to the lower stales and rejects. Turns out that pa.mtred.com has stratum support now, which is awesome!

Heres some lifetime stats of mtred. Excuse the spikes on hashrate; Most of them are filtered out. The cause is mtred's web server would go down but some of the mining servers would stay up, so it would play catch-up and appear to have crazy high hashrate. Credits go to wizkid057 for creating the graphs. Drag across part of a graph to zoom in. Double click to zoom out. http://vpn.wizkid057.com/mtred/

Quick question. I've been moving around to different pools trying to figure out what the best rate of return is, and I keep finding that MtRed offers consistantly a higher PPS than any other pool.
However, that being said, I have two issues which continue to keep me looking at other pools:
1.) I don't think I've ever seen the Estimation section of the Dashboard ever give an accurate reading. This is kind of okay as it's just a visual issue really, but it bothers me that this calculation is always way off. I can see how I might be incorrect if I wasn't present for the entire 25.###### transaction, but even when I've been there from start to finish, the estimation is always at least 1/3rd to 1/2 higher than the actual payout.
2.) While the PPS may be the highest I've been able to see so far (including a 1-3% donation), its frustrating that the shares aren't awarded until after the entire section has been completed. I'm assuming that Mt. Red just doesn't have a system in place to allow BTC to be floated so I'm not really per se complaining about this, I was just curious as to why this option isn't available for this pool. I'm more so just wondering if this specific feature has been thought about. I could potentially see a feature like that making the pool more popular, especially when given that the PPS is still higher than say the guys over at 50BTC, and they generate about 7 times more speed than Red does.
Other than those two issues, I have to say that I really do like Mt. Reds pool! It was kind of cool being a redditor myself to see that not only do we have a pool, but that it's in the top ten of all pools out there. Additionally, all of the documentation on the Mt. Red website was good enough that I went from being confused about what specific options to use and miners to having a really easy grasp on how to setup miners for not just Mt. Red, but any other pool or just mining in general.
TLDR; Awesome pool is awesome, but I don't truly know how much BTC I will earn per block found until the block is found, since estimation always gives me wacky numbers and instant share credit isn't offered.

The amount you earn is not based on how long MTRED takes to find a block. Every share you submit that is accepted by the pool is awarded the same amount (assuming you aren't using variable difficulty - otherwise you have to calculate is manually using cgminer's output). Assuming you're only submitting difficulty 1 shares, the amount you're paid will be: B / D * ( 1 - f ) where: B = the current bitcoin reward per block (25btc) D = the current network mining Difficulty (2968775.33), and f = the fee or donation you're paying (if you pay a 3% donation, f = 0.03) Just keep track of your shares and you'll now how much you should be paid.

Oh, calculating this myself isn't really a problem, but as any other good redditor, I'm lazy. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. I think it's just the convenience factor when you compare feature parity of Mt Red with other pools (at least as far as web UI is concerned). I'm not saying that Mt Red has to be like all of the other pools out there, I'm just saying some of the features seen in those other pools do add value. And something interesting that caught my eye in this thread specifically, it would actually make sense as to why the current estimation is consistently off (typically twice the amount than the actual payoff). Anyone else notice the Estimation shown on the dashboard page isn't showing the right estimation? I don't think the code has been changed to reflect the reward halving. Also, the PPS rate on the main page definitely appears wrong.

Yes, the main page and estimations are 2x more than they should be. This is addressed in the redesign; and if the 49ers win, I will upgrade us tomorrow.
