I have to say way count, because there is not enough!!!  We need more people using bitcoin so that it will be accepted more places than the limited locations it is currently accepted.  I am hoping the year 2017 will bring more bitcoin users to the building!!!  Tell the world!
bitcoin is growing and is increasingly being used. bitcoin users the exact figure could not be ascertained.
but nowadays most of the world's population is already familiar with bitcoin.

If we knew how many million people use bitcoin, we would have a serious problem, Sir  Wink Bitcoin addresses' are anonym so I cannot tell how many people own how many addresses that ever done any transaction. Maybe, we could count the bitcoin addresses that has ever done transaction from analysing blockchain, though.

Indeed you are right about that, no one knows how much users it really got because some people have a lot of wallets due to that you cannot simply count or something..

Given that there can be no more than 7 million transactions per month, you can set upper bounds, depending on the average usage.

- So if an average user does one transaction per month, then there are less than 7 million users.
- If an average user does one transaction per week, then there are less than 1.6 million users.
- If an average user does one transaction per day, then there are less than 250,000 users.
- If an average user does five transactions per day, then there are less than 50,000 users.

I do about 4 tx per day. So if I'm an average Bitcoin user, there are about 63,000 users.

I like the idea, but again, the problem is that I find very difficult to tell who the average user is because we do not know most people who do BTC transactions. We could ask people on this forum or at popular online wallet sites and calculate an average from their responses, maybe even check their responses, but will a huge enough amount of people tell us honestly about their transactions and let us trace them back? I do not think so.

2-5 millions? as of now? I think that is pretty low though it is 2016  sort of a lot of new users are coming everday and everyweek our populations every year is getting double or more because it is very famous i think we are in 6-9 millions users of bitcoin as of now Cheesy

I think thats only a rough estimate? If users are 2-5 Millions of people, you are correct here that theres a lot or a very big market for bitcoin as its reach is world wide. So, still it looks like we are still in pioneering stage? I dont think so, more people espeally the new generation are already aware and joining the bandwagon now.

I would think that it would be fairly easy for Bitcoin to have something like 2-5 million users, assuming that you consider a user who has some sort of Bitcoin holding, regardless of size, a user.

I would think there's at least a few hundred thousand past or present users of Bitcoin on this forum, and so I wouldn't expect this to be an inaccurate count of at least a portion of users, as long as you account for alt accounts.

Actually i don't have any data of users on my country and i don't have any proof, but if i saw at market place of bitcoin.co.id (Indonesian market) there are about 300 up to 400 users who were active on the market daily, and it is just small amount of comunity in my opinion. But it will growing up step by step in the future. And i have choosed about less than 2.000.000 users in the world.

Its big problem no one have real data about users of bitcoins in many countries like Indonesia, Philippine and India which are big markets but very small trades its need time may be in near future some one try to manage this all  and we can say exact figure about this in my view we have over 2500000 members in this community

Obviously the number is less than 2 million because not much please know about bitcoin and in my country hardly 1000 people knows about bitcoin so I guess in whole world may be 1 to 2 million people use bitcoin. And no one can find the real number all have to guys only because bitcoin is anonymous and no one could find how many user exist. And one user usages many wallet sop from wallet address also we can't find the number.

I just don't have valid data on Indonesia users, and i just share about the users who always be online on bitcoin.co.id daily, the most is big market place at indonesia , and i think there are not many people who has valid data about users of bitcoins. Do you have any data? Show to here it will become a proof for your claim.

If you cared enough you might want to start by eliminating the ones that don't.  It is another way of solving something like this.  Start with the overall population of the planet, I think about 6.5 billion and start getting rid of groups.  You can get rid of a bunch quick.  Most third world countries don't have the internet set up to handle something like Bitcoin, so chop those off with a little research, say a good 1.5 billion from those.  That puts you at 5 billion.  Age groups are easy, under 8 years old, maybe older, not likely trading and using Bitcoins, lol.  You get the idea, countries where it is illegal are out, maybe New Jersey, just playing.  Before too long you are at a much smaller number, just don't double dip.  If you took out the country of Belize at 1.8 million and then researched that there are 1 billions people in the world under 10 years old and subtracted that you would be taking out the Belize under ten group twice.  Or.................ask the government, they probably already know.

In my own  opinion on this  matter  ive choose  less than 2 million on the poll  selection because i believe  thats the total of people   who uses bitcoin as of now  2016  worldwide. Well i might be wrong  but its too hard  to count of really because  transaction on bitcoin are anonymous after all and we cant guarantee that   all created wallet addresses are created by a  single person .

Hard to make that known.  First, Bitcoin, if used right is nearly untraceable, so there is no “ledger” that says that 1 BTC is for this guy and another is for that guy, those two 1 BTC accounts may be the same person.  Then, there are burnt, lost and forgotten accounts and coins.  I can personally say that I have had more than twenty BTC addresses in the past five years.

according from your statistic it's seems like the bitcoiners is very a small percentage comparing with the total people in the world, may just 0.5% of the total population. but that's a fact.

Although 1 million Indians have their bitcoin wallets, I read somewhere that there are around 10K+ active users who are using bitcoin regularly (probably short interval of time). Yes I believe there is huge potential for the growth of bitcoin in India because there are not good (and cheap) alternatives to send funds internationally. Paypal has restrictions so no one can send funds from paypal account (unless credit card linked with an account) so I prefer bitcoin over other payment options.

I have voted "<2 millions". Although millions and millions of people have heard about bitcoin, not many of them actually use bitcoin. Many of my friends relate bitcoin to criminal activities and do not even want to know more about it. Hopefully one day this will be changed.

Thats why we cant really pin point on how much people do  really use bitcoin since theres the possibility of  multiple accounts  used  by the same person which we could   create more than one, and  if we  based  on the  addresses that  been made then  it would be  huge then but the  the users  count would  not be accurate at all.

Actually, I am surprised no one has posted stats from the App store and in particular android play store for numbers of bitcoin spv downloads.

There should be something like 1.5million downloads of various spv wallets.

I think it's 2 millions of members that we have right now, or more. That is only to my rough estimation. And in my observation we have member here that has multiple account in bitcoin talk.org meaning the 2 millions can possible to multiply in to 2 or more.

I think bitcoin users number are under 2 millions to 5 millions people who are using the bitcoins, But as we all know that no one can say perfectly about bitcoin users. But i believe that i am right, because now within 2 years bitcoin is going very well, and everyday the people know about it and like it and use it in different ways.
