Russia is neither an enemy nor a friend. Russia is what you make her to be in your own head and in your own politics.

If you act aggressively towards Russia you will feel that she is your enemy.
If you act friendly towards Russia, you will see her as your friend.
If you act neutrally, you will perceive her as a neutral partner, who won't be minding your business for you.

Remember the WW1? That one was almost entirely confined to the European continent. Latin America was not a theatre of war, and the US participated only for the last 2 years.
