this doesn't look like bitcoin acceptance to me, maybe i understood the article wrong but it is only about blockchain not bitcoin.

but i hope someday countries like this which are great in tourism start accepting bitcoin, because usage of bitcoin for tourist is a lot better and easier than usage of their local money and it is still helping their economy because it is money entering their country.

The title of the article obviously said it all, they only use the idea of blockchain in a way of promoting tourism in dubai the Dubai Points which is blockchain based system and the article not mentioned that they are accepting bitcoin..

But if its really true, then its a good news to implement bitcoin in any country as one of their currency.

Congratulations Dubai! Good luck catching up with the rest of the world in other areas like basic human rights. I'd say we give it another hundred years or so.

Sounds cool. It gives a strong move for bitcoin seeing one of the modern countries is also evolving in terms of payments. There have been a lot of bad opinions about bitcoin and this one could lift up the good reason to own a bitcoin at least.

Dubai is hardly a "modern" country. It is backwards, primitive, and a failure in regards to basic human rights. The only reason people think Dubai is all fancy and civilized is because they managed to use their oil money and handouts from the Western world to distract us from its inability to provide for their working classes, as well as their religious intolerance by creating a bunch of tall buildings. Don't forget, that the cheap Indian labor they used to build those tall buildings were later beheaded/deported. Dubai is the Shah Jahan of the Middle Eastern world.

They are only implementing Bitcoin to boom the tourist market. They quite literally ban poor people from being on the only premises that white people that go for tourism there see. Those are the only places you are going to see Bitcoin machines/vendors/end users. The rest of Dubai is pretty much like the third world.

I heard that some companies or 'investor' from there already researching about blockchain technology too.

It is dubais culture that seems they are primitive but I know they are cathcing up. They are always open to innovations and ideas. They are fast to implement new technologies. Currently they approved the first hyperloop project.

All is well, another big player came into our bitcoin network. I have faith in Dubai it would definitely play a great role and a role of big brother in near future because all rich people resides there and they would all deal with bitcoin of millions and 100 thousand so that traders could have more profit and  we could see development in bitcoin world. Thanks Dubai for joining bitcoin.

there is no doubt that Dubai is always keeping up with technology , but the article is talking about blockchain not bitcoin itself
there are couple of places that accept bitcoins in Dubai , but we can just simply say that Dubai accepts bitcoin

Dubai is studying the possibility of creating a new payment system , but I really doubt that this will be bitcoin

It is good to hear that bitcoins are now accepted in some countries. But i think the article is all about blockchain. And there is no discussion about bitcoin in the said article. But then it's a good point that some countries would accept bitcoin. I think it could promote tourism since tourists from other countries that uses bitcoins will get an ease in paying if a country accepts bitcoin.

It's often seen that getting tourist to come is difficult and those that do manage to come often struggle with currency fluctuations, recent ones being when euro broke down, and in India news which is getting global attention Rs. 500 and 1000 notes invalid. In all this this is a welcome news that Bitcoins is accepted in dubai also now, cheers to the entire community.

Blockchain can ‘gamify’ tourism https://cointelegraph.com/news/dubai-and-norway-use-blockchain-to-redefine-tourism
I have to chuckle that so many things have happened to encourage stuff like this to be honest, really goes to show that we live in really interesting times. The compounding effects of everything are hilarious to watch.

Oh well, maybe one day I'll go to someplace like Dubai and use my Bitcoin there. That's far in the future and to be honest likely out of the cards, but I'll see.

Exactly the same as what I am thinking. There are a lot of individuals out there trying to form "blockchain" companies and most of them do not know really what they are doing. The just want to use the "blockchain" because it is the "in" thing and they want to get money from VC's and thru ICO's. The funny thing is all of these "blockchain" companies have no real world use case and will all fail in the long run. Do not be tricked by these snake oil salesmen.

Huh? What do you mean they accept it now? Dubai isn't a store or something so how does a whole city accept bitcoin overnight? I didn't understand a lot of the article.

I think what he mean was, Bitcoins was already recognise in dubai and you can use it there as a real money. This is great if that so! but upon research, the articles didnt say bitcoins but instead of blockchain. The true innovation is Bitcoin, the decentralised currency. The blockchain is only a necessary technological prerequisite to enable this great innovation. Banks and governments are in denial of this simple fact, because it means that they will loose their power. That's why they frantically focus on "Blockchain Technology".

i would argue the other way round. the blockchain ist the revolutionary technology and it is what gives bitcoin its value. bitcoin has rigth now an advantage because it was here first and is further developed then most other chains. this can change. dubai can throw some money around and the development of chains can explode, so better keep an eye on this.

In that news, they only say that Dubai only use blockchain technology. Maybe they'll accept bitcoin as payment method as well because bitcoin also based on blockchain technology.
But, i think only tourist who would use bitcoin.
in my opinion, bitcoin really have nothing to do with these blockchain project which the main purpose is "gamify" tourism, even if bitcoin also based on blockchain system aswell, dubai only aiming to implement the blockchain technology because they just have their own local currency (fiat) i guess
