Some history:

Way back in 2016 I did not make any progress in building bitcoin when I tried to get help from the bitcoin/bytecoin related FreeNode groups.

So I ended up making my own environment.  I put it up on GitHub in 2017, and have not really looked at it since.

I believe that this is a bunch of scripts that will build a virtual machine and then build a local copy of Bytecoin that I codenamed IOUnote.  I have not reviewed it today, or since 2017.

This was a bit fragile and a little too customized for the immediate task at hand, but it did work for me and nothing else did.  It builds the GitHub version by Ahmed Bodhi, the one that he cloned, and my branch that I call IOUnote.  These are all 0.8.x versions.

Somewhere in the build process there is a call from the virtual machine out to the VirtualBox host, and this is a Ubuntu command.  It is probably an ssh call, I don't remember.  If you are running VirtualBox on windows, I expect that things will break there.

Many newer bitcoin versions use a different build environment and I have not mastered these new environments.

The build is very specific to Trusty Tahar, with exactly the installs in the scripts.  All sorts of surprising things cause it to break, it is really fragile, so this is very constrained both in the bitcoin version and also in the Ubuntu version.

Anyway, please feel free to look this over.  After I get a bit oriented as to what I did, I will make some decisions about what to do next.

I try to be respectful and informed.

It does not say anywhere who created this coin and why. Also how much preminning happened with this coin?

Check here

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164569.0

Bytecoin was launched with no pre-mining, but almost immediately a guy who goes by Ahmed Bodi from BC, Canada (I think) pointed a big ASIC at the coin. He and his gang scarfed over 100,000 BTE during the first year from startup. He would mine until the difficulty went up, wait till it dropped at the next recalc, mine again and so on. He did this at least half a dozen times, but then seemed to lose interest.

We have had several posters on this thread recently that I suspect are Bodi or one of his associates posing as newbies under different handles.

Difficulty is now down to 264k, so now is a good time to start mining.

Would anyone mind booting up their wallet so that I can download the blockchain.

Also, is everyone else using wallet version 80101. I compiled it from source that I found on one of these pages.

I did find the seednodes that were posted but I cannot seem to connect to them. debug.log is giving the typical connection timeout.

Send me the IP address for your node and I'll connect to it. You may find it disconnects and then re-connects from a different IP at least once a day. Don't forget to add "dbcache=4000" to your bytecoin.conf so the download will go quicker.

I did finally get the block chain from one source. I could never connect to the seed nodes that were mentioned in this thread. In case anyone is looking to download the block chain I have two nodes set up.

Quote
addnode=62.171.180.0
addnode=164.68.101.222

I also saw someone asking for a wallet. I have compiled the linux qt and daemon on 16.04. I used the source (0.8.1) that was posted on the first page the the ANN. I did see some talk about a newer version (0.8.3) but could not find a link. At any rate, here a link to those wallets.

https://mega.nz/file/bBJg2KQZ#t3PMFXqNO3CS6bKd7LQNIFzp4HmvS_8K1A9XV9ZepyQ

I would post the block chain but it downloaded pretty darn fast. When I tested the QT wallet, it did not take very long at all.

I have two nodes running on separate servers. One may drop every now and then, but there should always be one running.

Forgot to mention I'm mining. Just a few blocks now and then.
