How Blockchain Explorers Work

The Qtum developers released a nice Christmas gift, a new user interface for qtum.info, the official Qtum blockchain explorer. This week we look at how blockchain explorers work, and then next week we look at the new features in qtum.info.

TL;DR: Full node wallets can access the entire blockchain but their view is focused on the addresses (private keys) they manage. To see all the transactions and blockchain activity use a blockchain explorer, which is a browser and search engine for the blockchain. Explorers work using a database which holds all the blockchain information in easily searchable tables. The Qtum Explorer provides additional features such as rich list, smart contract calls, QRC20 transactions, and current network statistics.

Qtum 2020 Technology Roadmap – Detailed Explanation – 3 Areas to Improve Performance

Qtum has just released the 2020 technology roadmap, which includes three major updates for offline staking, Qtum Phantom privacy solution, and Qtum Neutron virtual machine architecture. The roadmap lists many technical goals, but for most users, these concepts are too abstract. This article will further explain the technology roadmap to help users better understand the meaning and innovation behind the technology.

The year of 2020 began as a very good one for altcoins so I wish that the 2020 technology update from QTUM team will help the price of QTUM moving upwards in the coming few weeks. It is the updated roadmap and need efforts to finish but from the updated version of QTUM roadmap, I do see lots of promising things for the future growth of QTUM. Every growth takes time, and the Rome is not built within a day.

It's true I really can't believe what just happened in the past few days, everything moves together and the price rises to a fantastic volume, the holders of qtum must be very happy, finally they can enjoy what they have been waiting for now, hopefully this year will be the year altcoin.

Roadmap for this year is not so impressive... Just may be Qtum Fhantom will be interesting.. but this is not something new. For example Tomochain is doing the same thing.

Phantom is interesting and much needed feature, They're also going to implement delegation system, Which probably going to appeal to a lot of people, Everyone will be able to earn interest risk free without having to run a node themselves.

But this is not new and something unique. A lot of projects have DPoS already. I meants something unique and usefull with real usecase of tokens.

@magisterr, Qtum offline staking will not be DPoS. It will be delegating offline wallet addresses and their UTXOs to online staking services nodes. Qtum already has one of the most decentralized networks and offline staking will add new PoS nodes to the network, increasing decentralization. That is different from DPoS, which may have two dozen validators/stakers, or less.

Dpos is centralized, seems they plan let the smart contract be the delegator.. not a node.
also for dpos.. you can not get your reward automatically.. some times your reward based on your trust of the delegator..
i think that's the big difference.

also i think the Confidential Asset is a good feature.. just image you can release an anonymous USDT on Qtum.

Development Updates (January 13 - 19)

Qtum Core

Qtum core updates normally consist of Qtum Improvement Proposals. These QIPs are generated by both our developers and the community and in some cases requests from enterprise users. Our developers evaluate the impact of each QIP and work on high priority QIPs. All bug fixes and feature enhancements that have been issued to the core project will be listed here.

Qtum Neutron & x86 Virtual Machine

Qtum Neutron is the infrastructure to support new virtual machines and the first will be the x86 virtual machine allowing smart contract development in C, Rust and other languages. The EVM will continue, but the x86 VM will allow easy creation of smart contracts using safe, well-known, mature languages and tools, and also provide a new state memory model using DeltaDB.

Lightning Network

  •    No update for this week

Qtum Explorer & Wallets

The Qtum Explorer is our blockchain explorer that is used for viewing transaction details on the Qtum blockchain. The primary blockchain explorer site is qtum.info. We frequently release updates to both explorer and the web wallet sites. Additionally, you’ll find information regarding the official Qtum Electrum wallet and support/feature updates to hardware wallets or other interesting services/products.

Qtum.info Explorer

Qtum.Info, as the official blockchain browser of Qtum, mainly provides information such as network status, transaction records, data indicators of blockchain and visual charts. Qtum users, exchanges, wallets, mining pools, and other commonly used data service tools.

Electrum Wallet

  •    No update for this week

Android Wallet

Web Wallet

  •    No update for this week

Qtum SDK

QtumJ is bitcoinj ported to the Qtum blockchain protocol. The bitcoinj library is a Java implementation of the Bitcoin protocol, which allows it to maintain a wallet and send/receive transactions without needing a local copy of Bitcoin Core. It comes with full documentation and some example apps showing how to use it.

  •    Continue Port BitcoinJ to Qtum
  •    Test and fix problems caused by the merge
  •    Modify the SDK for Whalex's requirements, and develop sample code

Qtum Testing
