HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet

So when I created my super secure wallet and put all my BTC savings in there, how much should I keep in my every day wallet, because its quite some trouble to get to my bitcoins in my super secure wallet?

Would it be a good idea to have an easy to access wallet that is more secure then the every day one for medium size bitcoin purchases.
I was thinking of creating a new user on my PC with an encrypted home dir (like my normal user has too).
In this account I create a wallet and only use this account for sending and receiving BTC, no web browsing etc.
Now even if a wallet stealing mining software or website gains access to the every day account it can't access the wallet file in the second account because the home dir is encrypted.
But I can still quite easily switch to the second account do my Bitcoin stuff and go back to the normal account for every day stuff.

What do you think? Useless or would this actually help make the wallet more secure? I kow that this does not cover all possible attacks.

It's not difficult to transfer between wallets, even via command line.

I've decided to leave my dedicated bitcoin (mini) PC on, and connected to the network at all times. This way I can use putty/ssh from work and transfer at any time.

0) Damn Small Linux is 50MB in size, install it somewhere and install bitcoin on it.
1) Encrypt the disk/file.
2) Use a Cloud-based service like JungleDisk.com to backup your wallet/distro. It costs $5/month & the first 5GB is free.

Good idea, although DSLinux can be tedious for beginners. But I like the elegance of your solution.

One potential problem: If we think long-term, DSLinux-version.today might not necessarily be able to boot on modern hardware in a few years.

Don't forget Puppylinux...
It also boot in Gui, sadly it only have restricted locale, but it's very nice, atleast those times I've tested it.

If I understand correctly. Since version 0.4, my wallet is encrypted. If I used a strong password and I'm pretty sure no key logger is installed on my computer I can simply copy this wallet to a USB key and store it in a remote location to protect myself from losing my wallet in a fire or theft.

Is it all I have to do ? I'm too lazy to go through 534 messages.

well there's 2 things you need to think about, do you want to secure your wallet or your whole pc/mac/linux system?

securing your wallet, use the password lock at least (doh), better still stick your wallet on a usb drive (even one of those password protected devices) so there's no wallet on your machine at all until you mount the usb drive. keep backups on a 2nd usb drive as well.

i would never use cloud backups but if you think it's ok, encrypt the wallet, stuff it in an encrypted rar file as well (paranoid? put #1 encrypted rar inside a 2nd rar). and then use more than 1 cloud.

securing your system - truecrypt whole system encryption (windoze only) is the best way to go.
or there's a way of doing it for freebsd systems as well (via geli, google it).
linux i dunno, i only used *bsd.

if you're in the paranoid security department, put your whole encrypted OS on a usb drive so there's no bitcoin software on your main machine. keep a backup of course in case the usb flash runs out of write cycles.
