Bringing Identity To Crypto

We partnered with Jumio to offer secure identity verification, which can be linked to a Byteball address and used on demand
To be relevant in the real world, we need more anchors to the real world. One of them is identity.

Starting today, every Byteball user can link his Byteball address to his real world identity. The user’s personal data is verified by Jumio, the leading provider of identity verification services, and stored in the user’s Byteball wallet. At the same time, a hash of the personal data is stored on the public DAG and signed by a trusted attestor. The attestor also serves as a witness, so it is already trusted.

This attestation allows the user to prove to anybody that his Byteball address is linked to a verified person, without disclosing any personal information. It also allows to reveal the private information to individual service providers on demand, and the service provider can easily verify authenticity of this information using the hash stored on the public DAG.

https://medium.com/byteball/bringing-identity-to-crypto-b35964feee8e

i am not sure how i feel about this to be honest.

one of the many features of cryptocurrencies have always been the privacy and their anonymity, even the non-anon coins will always focus on these two.

why a coin like Byteball that has the BlackBytes for privacy do something like this? and not only that but add incentive for people to do that. (the giveaway and now the distribution)

to the moon with bitcoin...

I have to admit that the new distribution scheme makes sense to me. But I also have to say that the Byteball team is passive compared to other teams.

They really got active with marketing right after I dumped my Byteball.
I guess I'll admit defeat and buy back at a loss

I wish them luck with the new distribution but there's no way I'm linking my ID to any one individual address.

Aside from not having a clue who jumio is, I have no plans to stick with only one wallet.

I won't link my ID either. Cool
Maybe this helps:
"Users can still easily add another wallet and make it multi-address for better privacy. The second wallet is not linked to the user’s verified identity and can be used anonymously."

You don’t have to use the single address wallet. It can be used solely to register the ID. The registered ID is known to no one except for a hash that does not link to your ID. Only you control who gets what it terms of ID info. That ID info given by you can be checked for validity via the hash (assuming the counter party trusts the Jumio attestation). I understand Jumio will not know the address you used for the attestation payment. So no link there.

For all the rest, the semi-anonymous DAG operations remain as they are coupled with our beloved black bytes. The addition is just a digital ID, no more no less. Your small payments wallet (and any other wallet you may add to the wallet) continues to function just like before. As long as you do not send any ID info, it remains dormant in your wallet.

This is a step backwards for privacy and anonymity. Having your personal identity linked to a platform most of us have barely heard of

This is only if you want to take part in the airdrop. If you would rather not have the $12 ($20 air drop - $8 Verification fees), you are welcome to give this pass. But as Tony says, more and more ICOs now seem to have a requirement to complete KYC of their investors. Eventually, linking real life ID will become compulsory if you want to invest in ICOs.

Byteball and Its Development in 2018

Byteball is one of the few currencies that does not go through rapid ups and downs as we can see in other coins. It has a very strong user base and thanks to this its growth is gradual but stable. It allows users to create bets of all kinds (such as on a flight delay or the weather) using the smart contracts with conditionals. All public assets are able to be sent as textcoins, not just Bytes. It also provides private payments in the form of a secondary Blackbytes currency.

Although GBYTE would be the only DAG verified coin for ICOs (which is great), KYC for ICOs is blasphemy and idiotic at best. Why would you centralize personal information on everybody? So that a hacker's wet dream comes true and they can attain that infromation. Has any central authority ever in the history of mankind been able to keep KYC data safe? Answer is no and perhaps they will for a while, but eventually they will get hacked. I will never participate in any KYC ICO, it turns me off massively and all you should be worried about your data too.

I do not think KYC for ICOs will be driven by the coin developers themselves. It will be driven by governments and regulators in the country that the ICO is raising funds. Cryptos are kind of small compared to overall financial markets, but as they grow, regulators will impose KYC norms to prevent money laundering, tax evasion, terrorist financing, etc. Even the famed Swiss Banks, which were known across the world for their secrecy, have folded and are sharing information with government authorities.

What do you think is the price development mid term after the distribution model has changed?

I am not pretty sure what impact it has on the long run. Byteball is awesome tech with some unique featues. KYC is one of the big topics in the domain with the increasing regulation activities. For that reason Byteball could be a spear head in crypto field by providing a easy to use solution to do KYC.

Well... clearly short term, it hasn't worked out, but ultimately we got rid of some weak hands, who were going to dump the airdrop anyways... mid to long term, i am still bullish on Gbyte for the simple reason that the Tech is phenomenal! not to mention the countless features it has : black bytes, oracles, atomic swap etc. I do wish that perhaps Tony had picked a better ICO to start with than silent notary. but we shall see what the future holds

I do wish that perhaps Tony had picked a better ICO to start with than silent notary. but we shall see what the future holds

A new ICO on Byteball Platform : Worldopoly

Worldopoly is the world’s first mobile game combining AR, AI, Geolocationing, Blockchain, and DAG. The ICO is active until 17 May 2018, and you can buy WPT tokens with Bytes, BTC, or Ether.  WPT token is issued both on Byteball and Ethereum platforms but investors on Byteball platform receive increased bonus (even if they pay in ETH or BTC) for investments up to 30 ETH.

Website and all ICO details: https://worldopoly.io

This is a Swiss company.

Wordopoly ICO Bot is already added to the Bot Store.

This is a good strategy from this Swiss company to use ByteBall (GBYTE) platform and Coin for their token sale, and I think that ByteBall is taking now attention to increase their popularity with any kind of advertisements and ICOs like this one^.
I hope that the price of ByteBall will be back to $1k as it was at the end of last year, ByteBall was always a favourited coin to me and I highly believe that this coin will go much higher as it is very very low (as <$170 in CMC now)

ByteBall team is making very aggressive promoting campaign using Bitcointalk Signature campaign: they pay 30-160$ (depends on BTT rank) for every week, but requirements are too high: 25 posts per week.

Well I wouldn't say that it's too much aggressive, it is usual campaign, and it is only signature campaign and they pay on their own currency so they are not spending any bitcoin or any fiat money but the reserved money.
And yeah the rate is good enough and the requirements are not too high, I have seen campaigns that require up to 30-40 posts per week which I would say in that case this is aggressive promoting, at the other side there are campaigns which require only 10 posts or less per week depending on the campaign.
They also are running the twitter campaigns which is very effective and yahoo makes his job just perfect!
