i saw on bitcointalk a mention of oracles / masternodes do you need to hold a certain amount of your token and later on coin to be one?

Exactly it is like this as one mate explained on previous page about the project. Aeternity is a package which will provide platform for various things being fully equipped by multiple features to cover many services. This is big announcement for me as well to see beta testing has been kicked off already. This is preparation for the main net once required results are met.

is your testnet something only local or does it connect nodes around ? do we need to do token swap？
The Testnet is not local. Anyone can start a node now. Once Mainnet launches, AE token holders will have to swap their AE for AE cryptocurrency. There are no master nodes in æternity. Please refer to the FAQs for tech questions. Kind regards, The AE team |

Now dev team is working further to bring new feature for this tool. It sounds great how quickly they are making progress to get closer to the launch of mainnet. Recently the latest version of the Raiden testnet for Ethereum was launched, in which there are a lot of the same innovations (off-chain transactions, state channels and atomic swaps for tokens and smart contracts) for scaling as in Aeternity.
The developers intend to deploy Raiden in the Ethereum mainnet until the end of the summer (in August).
I think that Aeternity can face strong competition with Ethereum if delays start of the mainnet.
