Mars has a gravity level of 0.38g relative to Earth's 1g. This is the closest to Earth that can be found on theoretically habitable bodies in the Solar System, , but one of the biggest concerns about Martian colonization is the relatively long trip - six to eight months each way.

I think it is a cool idea, but not sure if it's worth the cost/time. I think the money can be better spent elsewhere.

With the present political and banking climate, wars and bubbles will secure our inability to ever go to Mars except to possible just get there. There will be no meaningful colonization. If we ever start to colonize, it will die out with war and banking collapses back here. We are not even close to understanding the methods of terraforming. We should consider more practical things with our time and money.

https://www.ted.com/talks/gwynne_shotwell_spacex_s_plan_to_fly_you_across_the_globe_in_30_minutesGwynne Shotwell, president of SpaceX, in her recent TED talk, presented a more acceptable time frame to have the first humans on Mars, within 10 years. But she has even bigger ambitious than Musk: "this is the first step in us moving to other solar systems and potentially other galaxies, and I think this is the only time I ever out-vision Elon, because I want to meet other people in other solar systems." Better start investing on anti-ageing medications or she won't see this on her lifetime.

^^^ Anti-aging is a very complex thing. We are finally finding ways to "jiggle" nature a little, so that it, nature, actually does that anti-aging within us. Too bad the medical is mostly about making money, so they poison us with medication (which is poison) rather than "jiggle" us into anti-aging health.

colonizing mars seems fantasy come true but the financing required to do so is humongous & many people argue that instead of trying to make mars live able why not try to fix earth coz humans have ruined it lol for eg. if earth is 4.6 billion yrs old, if we assume it to be 46 years then humans have been here for 4 hours and industrial revolution is only a minute old & we have killed 40-50% of vegetation, so to keep "humanity" alive which is pointless, it would be be interesting to see if colony on mars get funded. imo it would be so baller if spacex gets this done.

Elon Musk is founder and CEO of SpaceX. He made his billions. Now the other members of his team need to make theirs. They can always say, later, that they failed regarding Mars... as they live in luxury out surfing on the islands.

FTFYYou underestimate the stupidity here, Mars is a light in the sky; a holographic projection of off a mirrored dome that covers the flat and motionless plane that is our Earth. Mars is not a terrestrial world you can travel to any more than an HPS street light. You believe this Jewish mysticism crap like a good goy. I tell you you're absolutly fucked in the head; everything you believe is a lie. Musk is a Jewish puppet for the military industrial complex, he can't even tie his own shoelaces. Billions and billions and billions goy!

The prospects of Mars colonization aren't looking very good right now, you know with Mars being a small holographic object a few thousand miles in the sky and all.

SpaceX's Crew Dragon is ready ( https://www.instagram.com/p/BkQ8w0mFoxa/) but it will have to be subject to more tests, including an unmanned flight, that probably will push its first manned flight to 2019.

This project will need lots of funding to continue. I agree with the other comments about SpaceX being too impractical. I heard about a more viable solution though. Companies and scientists are exploring both virtual and augmented realities to create a virtual world where humanity can live even long after our planet is destroyed. That's why there's so much hype being created now about headsets, AR glasses, even VR in movies. What do you think about technology already paving the way for our future?

Living a digital life on a virtual world won't exclude real space exploration. Some will prefer to live on fantasy worlds, some will live on both worlds and some will live only on the real world. If we are still around, we will escape the red giant phase of our Sun. This is one of the reasons to explore space. Actually, we might even have technology to save Earth, by changing its orbit, delay the death of the Sun, limit its expansion or other alternatives. People arguing that humans are destroying biodiversity (which, of course, is true) and that Earth would be better if we never existed, nevertheless forget that, right now, we are the only hope of life to still be here in about 1 billion years. No doubt, 3D immersive digital worlds will be a reality soon and many people will live there, including artificial intelligences created as copies of us, as a way to avoid dying without a trace. Start working on your memories, as a way to assure that the copy will be faithful. Converting actual living humans into digital people will be always problematic, because it will be hard to escape the impression that we just committed suicide and a copy of us (that isn't us, but just a copy) was created. It will be possible to work out a very slow change, neuron by neuron, cell by cell, as they die, creating an artificial one in its place. The end result will be more or less us as much as we are us every year. Taking in account that we are also just copies of ourselves, since we do a natural cloning process more or less every year: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1432165.0But this won't be possible on a digital conversion. So, ceasing to exist on the real world to live only on a digital one will always be a hard decision, unless we are about to die in the real world.

Whatever ends up happening, I think the whole thing is a good thing. It seems to be stimulating a huge amount of development. I don't follow everything that Musk does, but I have seen him talk about the possibility of having rockets transport people around the earth 10 times faster than current planes do. As far as I know, this is sort of a byproduct of all the development that's happening with rockets at SpaceX, partly with the goal of going to Mars. It's a classic example of the old Apple commercial, "Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do." Musk is changing the world.

That was a space program that basically, the entire American economy was dedicated to. You just don't have that sort of spirit about going to Mars. And you don't get the required funding without it.

Show me scientific proof outer space is real, you're being sold a lie by SpaceX! Ask a scientist how much Mars weighs and they'll tell about how they use the gravitational constant "G" to calculate its weight. "G" is derived from an experiment that observed two heavy balls through a small hole in a 17th century shed.
They weigh Mars with heavy balls in a shed, this is their scientific proof that Mars is a giant heavy ball in the sky. You want to call me fucking mad for believing Mars is just a small light? This space shit is a total fucking scam.
