Is there an option to sell bitcoin and buy dollar or tether or any fiat currency using exodus? I know that you can sell bitcoin and buy altcoin and vice versa.

It's not possible as of now. Tether (ERC20) is apparently under evaluation according to their roadmap. If they ever decide to implement it, you will be able to exchange it.

Version 1.47.0 is out. The changelog:

  • Added a visual indicator to hide/unhide your password when signing into your wallet. This helps users who like to see the password they are typing. Just be sure no one can see your screen if you use this!
  • Ripio (RCN) has been added. You can now send, receive and exchange Ripio for other Exodus assets. As the official token of the Ripio Credit Network, RCN tokens are “required to access the network and facilitate transactions among all agents.” More information on the project and token can be found on Ripio’s Website.
  • More entries have been added to our ever growing list of Ethereum Assets (also called ERC20 tokens for you tech-heads). Exodus now allows you to send and receive; Bread (BRD), Genesis Vision (GVT), Iconomi (ICN), KuCoin (KCS), MediShares (MDS), Pillar (PLR), Ripio (RCN), Rivetz (RVT), Santiment (SAN), Substratum (SUB), TenX (PAY), and Time New Bank (TNB).
  • Exodus now supports sending to Bech32 BTC addresses. This is a first step in our effort to add full SegWit support on Exodus for Bitcoin. For those that want to take a deep dive more info can be found on the Bitcoin Wiki.
  • CashAddr support for BCH has been added. No more pesky address conversion needed. 🙌
  • We lightened up LTC fees over 3X! They’ve been reduced from 0.0095 to 0.003 per transaction.
  • We squashed some bugs in the wallet backup process to keep things smooth as silk - adding extra protection to keep your assets safe.

In bold is what I would consider as the most interesting updates.

I have been using Exodus since I got into Crypto and every month there is
an update sometimes more and these new updates are very welcome
particularly the immediate effect of the LTC TX fees.

Going forward the full segwit support is great, this proves 2 things, the exodus
development team are "on the ball" and behind the scenes work is being
done preparing for segwit, its all positive for the future.

So apparently there is a security exploit in the wallet which could expose your private keys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU3Zfrvsm8k&feature=youtu.be
I still haven't contacted the team about this yet but I thought I should share it anyway just so you know. I would suggest moving your funds somewhere else until things are cleared out.

Hey! This is Michalis from Exodus support. Thanks for bringing this up!

We are aware of this issue and this video and we have published an article addressing it. I encourage you to read it, as it also offers advice on how to better protect your funds. You can find it here:
https://medium.com/exodus-movement/addressing-vulnerabilities-with-software-based-wallets-1cc9ff77bf44

The thing is that all software wallets are only as secure as the computer they are installed on. This means that if your computer is secure and malware free, then your funds are safe as well. This vulnerability can be exploited only if you have a malware installed on your computer designed to dump and read your memory.

We know that no computer can be 100% secure, that's why we advise our customers to not store large amounts in Exodus but rather use a hardware wallet: https://support.exodus.io/article/45-can-exodus-safely-store-large-amounts

Meanwhile, we are working on more advanced security features to mitigate these risks, as you can read in the article.

Thanks again for bringing this up. We want our customers to be informed of these limitations, because in that way they can protect their assets better. Once again, though, this issue can be exploited only if there's malware on your computer, so please take all necessary measures to keep your computer clean.

Where did he say that? He simply stated that 'software wallets are only as secure as the computer they are installed on' and he's right. Regardless If you're using Bitcoin qt, Electrum or any other wallet, If the computer has a keylogger, they could get your wallet password/seed and act from there. It's probably not the same problem but It's definitely valid statement.

They don't have the same problem, but yes they share pretty much the same concept, every software wallet including Electrum one of the best is as secure as your computer is. Security of the user computer is on the user and not on wallet creators.

Icon, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear in my response and that I didn't clarify it earlier.

I actually meant what OmegaStarScream and swogerino mentioned, and I thank them for clarifying on my behalf. If your computer has malware installed on it, then your funds are at risk. And it may not be by accessing the Private keys or 12-word phrase in memory, but there are many ways to get to them. So, having a clean and secure computer is of paramount importance.

Regarding QT wallets that you mentioned, the Bitcoin Core wallet warns you about the same thing when you encrypt your wallet:
Bitcoin Core will close now to finish the encryption process. Remember that encrypting your wallet cannot fully protect your bitcoins from being stolen by malware infecting your computer.

I'm not quoting that to point out that Bitcoin Core wallet is not secure. I'm mentioning it because I want to point out that encryption will only get you so far and we shouldn't fall in the trap of a false sense of security, just because the wallet is encrypted. Keeping your computer clean is the most important step in keeping your funds safe, when you are using software wallets.

I hope I was able to clarify my response a little bit. And I hope that you'll see that we are trying to be as forward and transparent about these issues as possible, because that way we feel we help you protect your funds better.

It's not possible as of now. Tether (ERC20) is apparently under evaluation according to their roadmap. If they ever decide to implement it, you will be able to exchange it.

It will be so nice to have that built right into Exodus.  Preserving cash during a downturn will be a piece of cake.

BTW, does anyone know why they added Ripio? ... they said there were focused on adding top 50ish coins, but lately we've gotten Ripio, Vertcoin, and Digibyte, and bunch of low ranked ERC20 tokens ... not sure why those were picked when coins like Monero, Nem, Neo have been on the waiting list forever, but get passed over for weird coins that are not even on the roadmap.

Exodus is always on the lookout to support more assets. In order for an asset to be considered, the following criteria must be met:

- The asset has developer resources and documentation.
- An asset has specialized API servers with load balancing setup for private use by Exodus. This is much easier if the API is based on Bitpay Insight.
- Market cap and 24-hr volumes are considered. Top-50 or perceived potential to enter the top-50.

I believe some coins are easier to add then others since they are forks with some changes and It also worth mentioning that some had a higher price but dropped with time so they can't simply remove it after adding it.

Hi HashFace.

Thank you for this question. OmegaStarScream correctly gave the gist of the situation, allow me to elaborate a little.

There are two types of assets supported by Exodus, those that can be exchanged using the built-in exchange feature and those that cannot. The first ones can be either coins with their own blockchain or ERC-20 tokens, while the second ones are only ERC-20 tokens.

Adding ERC-20 tokens (we call them Ethereum assets) is usually easier than adding an asset with its own blockchain and we have tried to support most of the Ethereum assets roughly in the top 100 spots based on market cap. If an Ethereum asset is supported by ShapeShift then it's added on the first category; if not, then it's added on the second one. Ripio is an asset that is supported by ShapeShift so we added it. I know it's not as popular as some other assets that we don't yet support, but since it is easy to add why not offer it to our customers.

And yes, you're right, most of them are added without ever being on the roadmap. We want to offer the ability to our customers to be able to safely store and transact as many Ethereum assets as possible, especially now that the landscape in the ecosystem is somehow murky on that front. For that reason we are also working in order to offer you the ability to add any Ethereum asset you want.

That, of course, doesn't mean that we have given up on supporting the more popular assets. On the contrary! Supporting Monero is one of our top priorities at the moment. So, is NEO and NEM and others. But, like I said, sometimes it's hard to add these assets and several difficulties present themselves along the way. For example, Ripple has been in beta for a long time because there isn't a reliable solution to the insight servers. Monero is built in a way that requires the whole blockchain to be downloaded, which is not how Exodus works. Unless these issues are resolved we cannot proceed to add these assets.

Finally, we do mention that in order for an asset to be considered it needs to be in or around the top 50 spots, but this is more of a guideline than a strict prerequisite. Perhaps we need to work on our wording there and make that more clear. Because there are other factors to consider. For example, when we added Vertcoin you can't imagine the number of enthusiastic tweets we received about it! There is value in some cases that goes beyond the strict market cap.

We want as much to add to Exodus all these assets that you mentioned, and more. And we will. But they need to be added in a way that they, and the wallet in whole, work reliably and seamlessly.

I hope I was able to clarify this for you.

All the best,
Michalis

1.48.0 (29th March) + 1.48.1 (3rd April) has been released, the changelog:

  • The “reveal password” icon now opens and shuts its one good eye depending on whether you’d like to view or hide your secret password.
  • Remember when restoring with your 12 word phrase meant losing all of your exchange history? Fear not! This has been fixed and Exodus from here on out keeps your history for you, no matter how you restore your wallet, all the while allowing you to control your private keys.
  • With a heavy heart, we must announce that First Blood (1ST) will not be returning to the exchange platform in Exodus. This is due to being delisted from major exchanges like Bittrex. Firstblood will now live in the Ethereum Assets tab of your wallet.
  • Exodus added a 1-click-easy way to register your EOS address and tokens. Find out more…
  • Funfair has a new logo in your wallet!
  • Upgraded to Electron v1.7.13 - If you know what this smarty-pants-javascript-stuff means take a look at our developer careers and get in touch!
  • Some EOS registration links have been corrected.
  • The swap icon would fail to switch asset units in specific cases.

You can see in extended release notes here: https://medium.com/exodus-movement/in-wallet-eos-registration-is-now-live-in-exodus-87d3d2c9fea0
