Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Who is still shorting???  Shocked And finex didn't even fall much...

USD   0.0243%   0.0662%   14,105,693.21 USD
BTC   0.0494%   0.0444%   26,954.87 BTC

Shorts new ATH. Longs at the lowest level since May.

There arn't that many shorting

Someone is taking out BTC credit swaps to raise the price for the few people who are shorting.  to remove liquidity.

They did it with LTC coin too, you can look here and see http://www.bfxdata.com/

Where is written how many btc swaps is atualy shorted?
Swaps have the same timing as the price movement...

In some cases yes.

I was watcching the charts quite closely and the live swaps as they come in, there are a large number of swaps going through that do not get traded.

It happens with both BTC and LTC.  Good example look at the LTC spike 15:37 11th Jan,  the swaps jumped to 191k from 127k in 1 go,  http://bfxdata.com/swaphistory/totals.php

I was watching and nothing was sold,  The swap was closed a little later after that period of selling pressure passed.  (for the time being)

I have been studying it for a while.

Why does a 1015 BTC short show up here http://bfxdata.com/swapstats/btc.php

but not on wisdom https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bitfinex/btcusd

Any ideas?

Shorts are not as high as someone wants us to think they are.  Bitcoin is being sold, not shorted!

Did you honestly go bust bro?

Yep, i'm out!  lost it all, I didn't think a $70  liquidation price would be a problem, but famous last words.

China awakens.

In about an hour...

I hope they have the munchies for coins. But I expect Panda poo.

I wouldn't be so flippant about China.

China are the ones with the most clout in this panic.

See here: http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/volumepie/

I don't think my unintended irreverence is going to affect the way the will try to dump bitcoin into oblivion.

Something is really screwy on BFX. I tried to put in limit sells order over $300 and it executed them immediately as market sells!  I immediately closed the positions at a small loss, but there is no way I'm risking this shit. My coins are coming home.

Unless there is reason to believe otherwise, it was probably a typo.

was not. I tried it several times with differing amounts and differing prices.
Well then, that is extremely "bad". I doubt it has much to do with the downtrend, though.

Price just went from $280 to $165 the last 48 hours, bulls tells you everything is OK... price bounced back to $185 (+20) and bulls start posting CCMF ... are you really this desperate ? you should be selling when you were profitable....

BTW, just please don't think about harming your self when we hit single digits, OK ?

The ask side is almost empty, I think most of people send coins and dump them right away because of fear and uncertainty .... the next couple of days people will be wiring money to exchanges either to buy right away or to open limit orders, which can bring some stability (maybe a bounce back to 2xx?) for a couple of days before crashing again.

one thing for sure, miners will be dumping like there will be no tomorrow, most of the hoarded coins will enter the market soon.

BTC is only 50x my entry price (about 3 years ago). Like now, that was a major bottom. Should I buy more? Thoughts?

I don't think we're quite at the bottom yet but we're close to where I stopped buying on the way up so I think we're about in the right ball-park.

Nice. That's what my gut told me to do back then but I failed to listen. But learning.

The picture is the same on Bitfinex which didn't have its orders cleared out: Bitfinex | Total bids: 4695435 USD. Total asks: 16226 BTC. Ratio: 289.36067 USD/BTC.

I've been posting the same snapshots when it was on the bearish tilt a couple days ago. Funnily, you weren't here to tell me about how it's all just nonsense.

Face it man, you used to be a bitcoin cultist who insulted me because I was bearish, and now you became a bear cultist who insults me when I sometimes turn bullish. Sad

If you didn't notice, I were off for a couple of months, I visited only to quickly check my PMs and some other topics (Slovenian Sub forum), but it doesn't matter, one thing I am not going to argue about, yes I was one of the biggest bulls over here for sure, but I was never a cultist.... but I don't remember insulting you when you turn bullish !! did I ? doesn't matter, I am sorry If I did, because I know that you are one of the few objective people here.

Why don't you talk about the bid sum on Huobi and Okcoin  or BTCChina (THEY move the market, not bitswap and short-covering-finex) that show a totally different picture?

After the hack bitstamp is irrelevant. Bitfinex is just shorters taking profits.
The fact that the bid sum is higher now doesn't mean this is the bottom, at all. It could mean that it's gonna take a little more time to dump through those levels.

No worries mmitech, it's all good.

More things to look at: Record daily volume everywhere, huge-ass daily candle, utterly depressed sentiment within a few days, positive divergences on lower timeframe indicators and this little gem:
