Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I am personally offended by the "You don't agree with me/science/the church/government/qanon/etc therefore you are dumb" argument.

I am sorry, but I disagree.

People should definitely respect each other's personal choices. Each of us should be free to think and do as we choose.

But when people start saying that being vaccinated offers greater protection from Covid than natural immunity (a truth proven by science), they need to be called out as fucking stupid.

Repeatedly. You can't debate a fact.

Just like I don't have to "respect the opinion" of Flat Earthers, that the moon is a secret alien base, or people who believe that fairies and goblins are real.

We cannot live in such a world where outright lies reign as some sort of mass truth.

First of all, I feel like I might have kicked off a little covid/vaccine skirmish with some of my comments.  I publicly apologize as I do try to avoid that talk here, but am not always successful as it is most definitely a factor in the worldwide economic landscape.

But at the same time I see people complaining about folks not using Bob's thread, and unfairness as to how people are asked to take things there.  To be honest I think where the whole thing falls apart is when we start calling each other names or treating people with disrespect because they disagree with our worldview.

I am personally offended by the "You don't agree with me/science/the church/government/qanon/etc therefore you are dumb" argument.

I would think if we could avoid that in here we would be better off...  Not meaning to be on a high horse.  I am guilty too.

That said... My job is hospital informatics.  I am taking a deep dive into some data I should probably not be analyzing, Heh. Although it is my exact work area, so I am allowed to look at this data. Kinda of a moral conundrum.  But it will not be the first time I have crunched some numbers around  the mess we are in.  But my curiosity gets the better of me.  Maybe if I come across anything interesting I will share it (a sanitized version perhaps) over in Bob's thread.

I for one have never been offended by any of your posts on any subject that I can recall Cap! I do agree that the facts and implications of the ongoing 2020 Pandemic are very much in line with the ongoing Global War over economics, decentralization and global power structures as are "Observed" and therefore discussed in this thread. It's heartbreaking to see the media forces, politicians, and globalist puppetmasters so successfully dividing people, including our fellow WO's with thus topic that should be a wake up to unite and work together to overcome this global foe. Unfortunately, I am afraid the "foe" is not the actual virus, but the power of fear and hate and those using that power against us.

First rule of debate, if you resort to attacking the debater rather than the debated, you are conceding to the weakness of your position. Anger and aggression are tactics used to hide fear. Fear that you are losing the debate. If we cannot calmly discuss the facts and debate rationally, the proper recourse is to step back and let the more capable debaters advance the conversation. To go on the attack is to announce that you are weak in your stance, and worse to demand powers that be should shut down the conversation (which is often the real goal of those showing weakness) is an abrogation of the key principles of freedom of speech. If you advocate limiting the rights of others, you quickly find the rights of all greatly diminished. For this reason I have never participated in or even read Bob's C19 thread. I think it is wrong in it's very principle and from what I've heard has been wrong on other levels as well. Rights checked are Rights lost.

Cap, I'd be very interested in any findings you may derive from crunching your privileged data. I think it a pivotal factor in what we are here to Observe. And I believe it would be a loss to us all to allow the divisive powers of our common enemies to relegate such key points to a substandard platform. Period.

Posting this to clarify science.
To start, I am NOT in favor of mandatory vax for many reasons, mostly associated with freedom of choice in an unclear environment.

Having said that what you posted (which is likely to be true) does not really apply from the sequence of events perspective.

Sequence one: you are not vaxxed, your chance of dying is 11/1000 per year. Yes, for 989 people who survived, they might have a pretty good immune conditioning, but about 3 times more people died.
Sequence two: you are vaxxed, your chance of dying is 3.5-4.2/1000 per year. Your immune status is probably less effective, but less people died, statistically (at least from what i found).

Data:
https://ourworldindata.org/covid-deaths-by-vaccination
https://www.pharmacytimes.com/view/covid-19-vaccinated-individuals-had-lower-non-covid-19-death-rates

In my extended family three people (unvaxxed) died. They were not young (therefore their risk was much higher), but died from COVID for sure. One died before vaccines were available, but two others did not want to be vaccinated.

However, it is also possible that in the future vax status would matter little if strains like the current one would break through easily.
As you can see on the graphs in the first link, death rates 'advantage' of vaxxed vs not vaxxed is declining (there is a "hump"), but still quite significant.

OT(lol): what about that bitcoin....up 2.5% today...wowza!

Maybe because chinese miners sold a lot of BTC at the top(s), to pay relocation operations.
Now they're getting their reserves back at a discount?

I am NOT saying we should not argue against a foolish point.  And particularly we should when the opinion is actually DUMB.  I am not even saying that we cannot be rude at times.

In your above example you actually make an argument.

It is when someone just says something like "YOU ARE AN ANTIVAXER IDIOT", or "YOU ARE A GOVERNMENT SHILL".  That is not sufficient in my opinion.  But once you start giving an actual argument I think you are back on the path.  I personally have no problem with us discussing this here too since it is indirectly related to Bitcoin price.  But I am aware many people do NOT want that topic here...

Many of the arguments boil down to "You believe something other than me because you are a moron".  A recent cartoon basically made that point.

40K yesterday, 42k or 5% recovery already, nice.
Yes it's nice see there's a recovery even though it is only 5%
I hope tomorrow and beyond will increase until it hits 50k and it's a big help for my patients to recover from the illness.
I think it will happen ASAP cause it's taking the medicine given by Aysag76

I like the idea of art, but your particular angle is not very appealing.. at least regarding how I see bitcoin.. If you put fiat in that bed, you would likely be in a better starting point.

Even if bitcoin could have some start from a single person, there is also not too much single person dynamics in bitcoin's design or the way that it runs .. even though there are efforts of several single persons who have had influences over bitcoin's direction, and single persons also have to decide their own extent to which they are going to be involved/invested in bitcoin.

First rule of WO club is not to talk of covid shitcoins. There is no second rule.

FTFY

And, if not.. I suppose that if we cannot agree upon the first rule, then there would not be any such first rule.

About overhearing, this happened to me yesterday.
A couple of kids of the very young and apparently clueless kind.
They're walking a few steps ahead of me.
I hear the word "cryptocurrency" and I tune my antennas in without even noticing.
I'm surprised that two guys like these would have a clue about crypto markets.
But they evidently do.
One says to the other: it's not even on Binance, I've looked for it! (shows phone to the other guy)
I tune my antennas out.
It sounds like they're talking about some shitcoin that Binance doesn't have yet.
Gaming token maybe? SAND? Whatevs. Kids.
