First block hit. Let's see what happens.

What does this mean?

Miners have not mined a block for over an hour.  Means all the coins moving to the exchange to sell have been stuck in queue. Now released.

now 4 blocks mines since (https://blockchain.info/blocks). how many confirmations does Gox require? 4 or 6?

Please tell me you are not sending coins to Gox.

"Dear clients, we sincerely apologize for your frustration, but for the last two months we have been having technical problems with our outgoing mail. We tried to stick the envelope with your check into the mailbox but we missed the opening. We concluded that having more than one envelope to mail was too much for our brain, so we gave up and tore up all the checks. But we still owe you."

How do you determine the value of a scamcoin relative to bitcoin?

That is one thing I don't understand. Say you mine some maxcoins, and you are the first miner to start selling, how do you price it?

erm.. good point (no, I left Gox months ago). I'm a bit foggy this morning. Stamp is 4, am I right? If so, I's give us 10 or so minutes to see whether panic selling will take another jump or not, on Stamp/Huobi etc

just got an email from mtgox: they say that they are in the process of remodeling their business architecture. they will transform from a bitcoin exchange to some kind of new über-cold-storage service. they guarantee you will not be able to access your coins for literally years. almost no fees. wow: people who have btc there already, get it for free.

I'm guessing withdrawals to Yen are still working.

But their BTC/JPY volume is tiny; ~500 BTC/day usually, 1400 BTC today.

The BTC/USD trade used to be ~5000 BTC, is already 33,000 BTC today.

Gox is below bitstamp? How is that possible?
Are fiat withdrawals working again?

It's actually not that difficult to see why.

Put yourself in the shoes of one of the poor sods who didn't heed the warnings (and warnings. and warnings. and warnings...) to get out of that shithole mtgox.

Until recently it was accepted that they have a fiat problem, ergo: a USD/BTC premium, in the range of 10 to 15%, because the goxtards felt holding btc is more secure.

Now it turns out gox is one step away from going belly up, as they have problems with the coin withdrawal as well...

What to do? Buy coins (that you can't withdraw), or sell coins (to get fiat you can't withdraw either).

The result is really pretty simple: panic.

And panic, in any market, leads to a crashing price of the asset, plain and simple.

Basically yes. But how do you explain the lower volume than bitstamp?

I waited to see what a trading range is. I thought it would start selling at 0000s or something tbh, it was ultimately scam launch. But Keiser and his gang took care that it starts trading at 01 for few hours and than it exploded when MCXNow added it. I've put 007 bid when it was around 02, just in case and it got partly filled just to rebounce heavily again.

Gox is below bitstamp? How is that possible?
Are fiat withdrawals working again?
Simple Gox-btc losing value v/s Gox-USD, as it cannot be withdrawn..
So when gox fixes btc withdrawals but not fiat withdrawals, does it rocket back up again?

They plan to be working on it all weekend and gave the impression it might take longer. Don't expect any BTC to be flowing out of Gox anytime soon.

That's a bit disingenuous, the statements says:
Our team will resolve this problem as soon as possible and will provide an update on Monday, February 10, 2014 (JST).
