Reason: Chinese exchanges minus ICOs will reopen in November or Early December. In addition Bitmain will grudging fall into line with Core having been spooked by the People's Republic of China and suddenly finding the prospect of "controlling" bitcoin less attractive.  This combination will spark the next major bull run.

My random speculation for the day.

I will take January 1, 2018.  The reasons are as follows:

The 2012-2013 bear market took 18 months before making another ATH above previous high around USD16.  
The 2014-2017 bear market took 38 months (!) before making another ATH above the previous high around USD1100.

So the next few weeks are crucial to determine whether this is a bear market, i.e. 5th wave over, or merely a correction.  
If USD3K level holds and we can bounce off to test the huge congestion/volume level near $4000 to $4200.  
If $4200 fail, then we could see a huge head-and-shoulder forming above $4k to 5K.  
So we should know the result before by the end of this month.  

Since the Segwit X2 fork is scheduled for around November 21, if everything goes smoothly or BTC exhibit strength throughout
the debacle, then we may have something similar to August 1 BCH fork, i.e. everyone expects the worst and move BTC off exchange,
leaving little sell wall on the exchange, and lead to a sharp move up once everything did not turn out to be the end of the world.

So at the earliest, any BTC ATH should be after the Segwit X2 fork.  I presume that we would be well off the $5K high at that point
and BTC is undergoing sideway consolidation.

If the above two criterion fail, i.e. BTC fail to regain foothold above $4K and SX2 coin turns out to be another battle for hashrate and
result in huge block congestion, then it's useless to predict ATH anyway, as it would many months of bear market, based on past experience.

Another dump unpleasantly and another game of ATHs, micgoossens i want to pick February 18, 2018.

Hipefully the dump wont take long and will recover to $4300 atleast, i cannot wait months long i will sell if i had to. Accepting the loss.

Well hello there,

i'm new to Cryptos but not new to investing.

So as dumb as I am - ignoring the properties of a highly volatile and unregulated market, I invested a huge amount at ~4100€ (almost ATH), woke up to a 10% loss and sold everything in two charges at a -15% loss.
The hodlers who bought high amuse me: "I am not loosing money until I sell it" - well sure you loose money, the value of your asset declines.
Any investor with half a brain will tell you that a secret to success is limiting your losses (risk).
So at first I regreted my decision, because It went to straight ~3900€ two days after.
I read more about Crypto, talked to people and was more and more suspicious about the current state of the bubble.
Well now I'm lucky. If I would buy now, I would get more BTC for less money including my losses.

So what did I learn? I think BTC has an intrinsic value of around $1000. The rest are hopes and dreams.
Most of the BTC investors never traded a stock before and just want to get rich quick - this is driven by many blatant dumb posts in this thread and others   
Everybody knows somebody who got rich with stocks and BTC, well...but that might be just "luck" (law of large numbers).

And I will repeat what others said before me. Blockchain technology is revolutionary but BTC is not - It is not more than a speculative asset.
Anybody who "believes" in BTC as a decentralized currency is doomed to fail. It is the king now, but there are no kings, only princes.
So, as you do not know the intrinsic value of a BTC you might end with a bunch of worthless private keys.

Anyway I'm surely investing down on teh road for the fun of it.

Perma bulls prefer to die with their bitcoins than to sell.

Even when a meaty ATH occurs and there's like 200% chances to buy lower later, they don't sell  

They are weird people surely. Especially when a bear trend can last months/years.

A flash crash is better than a slow gentle decline to $2 over many years.

I reckon we’ll see ATH before 19th October because traders are going with the flow and will be buying back in with the profits to accumulate more Bitcoin than they sold. When that happens, there’ll be more fiat than Bitcoin available.

good for you, selling at a loss and still buying for a win. the last time I did that was for 20% loss and it was like everyone was waiting for me to sell and when I did it flew off to a new ATH
