Where are you from though? In the uk I'd read that as 1st Feb 2018. US would read that as Jan 2nd.

All of the responses have been in non-US standard.

In all honesty, even though I already put in my guess, I predict the next ATH will not be until 2020  

I fear another 2 year bitcoin hibernation period before much more amazing prices. We have lived through that 4 year cycle a few times already, I have little doubt it won't happen again.

I'm still holding though. But this time I will not have a job when it hits the 2 year low to buy all of those cheap coins.

Automatically use Tor hidden services

Starting with Tor version 0.2.7.1 it is possible, through Tor’s control socket API, to create and destroy ‘ephemeral’ hidden services programmatically. Bitcoin Core has been updated to make use of this.

This means that if Tor is running (and proper authorization is available), Bitcoin Core automatically creates a hidden service to listen on, without manual configuration. Bitcoin Core will also use Tor automatically to connect to other .onion nodes if the control socket can be successfully opened. This will positively affect the number of available .onion nodes and their usage.

This new feature is enabled by default if Bitcoin Core is listening, and a connection to Tor can be made. It can be configured with the -listenonion, -torcontrol and -torpassword settings. To show verbose debugging information, pass -debug=tor.

Unfortunately, the Great Firewall of China already block TOR through some fairly sophisticated techniques and that is like 5~6 years ago.

People had to fake the packet to be like Skype or other type of packets using stuff like Obfsproxy.  But that had to be done within China as all outside relays are blocked.  I don't know what's technique now days for connecting to Tor from within China.  But the point is that they are already scanning outgoing packet with with some fairly sophisticated algorithm.  Satellite can not be blocked, but uplink is expensive with limited bandwidth.  There is probably problem with latency as well.  Also, signals can be jammed, even if only locally.

I forgot to mention that's the "DPI" mentioned in that document, i.e. deep packet inspection, to throw out BTC network syncing data, in the word of those officials.

I am more optimistic, but a sideways scenario for 6 months cannot be ruled out. It happened before (and can happen again). No sweat, the train (cryptocurrency adoptoin) keeps moving anyway.

November will be a nothingburger!
If they fork-off, it will be an altcoin! B2X never will be the legacy chain. The vast majority of the ecosystem is against that fork.Therefore it's another chance to get some free money like bcash was. There will be another one with BTCGPU/BGold as well!
For now I stay pretty bullish for another upwards move and a possibility of a new ATH. But for sure we will see some bear phase of a few months again at some point, no doubt about that. Right now the shakeouts had been about showing strongs hands and faith. The longer bear and consolidation phases again will be about patience! These times are often extremely boring for many people, but great for more accumulation.

It seems like the last ChinaFUD (of a BTC total ban + firewalling) might be exaggerated, and that's what caused this dump imho. In any case I doubt that it can be very effective.
If they try for real it will be a good test of btc "anti-censorshipness". Make your bets.

Rules ....: the one  with the right date of ATH gets .25 btc paid directly  (UTC time)    (closest to ATH.....)
I look to Every page in here from now When a date is picked first iT cannot been taken again ( 1st =1st)
Another .25 btc is rewarded for ho makes best of technical analyse of the time When we strike ATH.... and Why iT happens at that time.....
So This .25 also only to been payed 1 time .... and not 2 times te same explanation.... (1st =1st)

Isn´t oil consumption going to go down by a lot, if electric cars go mainstream (and electric trucks)? I don´t see the oil industry exploding any time soon, because
most oil producing countries still have giant reserves that can be exploited.

I'm surprised. Normally you are a permabull in just about every situation, and suddenly you had a change of heart. Weird, and unexpected, as I didn't expect you to even think of the option BTC could go the opposite way.
My opinion of you has really changed for the better now.
