We discovered that Stellar suffered an inflation bug in 2017 that created over 2 billion $XLM, and they quietly patched it with an equivalent token burn.
up 5% today smh

the alt-shitshow never ends. half the industry is an ongoing scam. we need theories about how alts became a thing and why they are still a thing. and we need to come up with a plan to end this this shitcoinery.

I don't think that they can be ended.

They can be tolerated and considered as unimportant, similar how Hairy framed the matter in an earlier post.

Even satoshi seemed to account for them in his very first writings, before such alt coins and imitation attack vectors even existed.

There is a kind of human nature to try to get rich, to try to improve upon things by copying and imitation, and even thoughts about missing the boat on bitcoin and investing into various scams comes off as inevitably part of the playing out that will likely take close to 50 years to play out.. and even then will bitcoin take up 80-90% of value perhaps?  but that remaining 10-20% would be quite difficult (if not impossible) to reign in.  So why spend considerable efforts on fighting them, beyond education and of course, if they directly engage in fraud and deception then the individuals might be prosecuted.. but what more can be done if we are thinking free market principles anyhow and bitcoin is going to attract the vast majority of the value, anyhow?

i think shitcoinery is more dangerous than the "blockchain, not bitcoin" idiots. the latter burn corporate funds and going nowhere, but shitcoins are eating the bitcoiners cake (aka invested money) and the fool masses of people into their scams. the scammed people will not adopt btc, they will hate crypto forever and think btc is the same.
i really wonder how much fresh money invested into crypto moves into shitcoins.

I have 2 thoughts on this, maybe it takes away from BTC holders but maybe it stops retards from becoming sour BTC losers as they lose it all on shitcoins and were never in it for the right reasons to begin with.

Don't paint me as a shitcoin defender but the market is big enough for more than just bitcoin. The altcoin fad will never die out. A lot of the shitty coins I held in 2014-15 are worthless now, but the cycle didn't end, they were just replaced with newer, fancier coins. Some of them are copycats riding the wave and the market will suss them out. Others will find niches, loyal user bases and stick around for a while.

Well, I decided that I am poor, so bit the bullet and joined a signature campaign that makes me wear an avatar. I am keeping my hat in storage, though. I guess if Alaska now wants to use my hat, he can. I still consider myself part of the WO club, even though I haven't been posting here very often lately.

Hey no shame man, I must have made, probably over 7 or 8 bitcoin’s in sig campaigns since I came here in 2014.
Effectively talking to you guys made me that much money.

I remember earning over 0.15BTC per week at one point.

yes, shitcoins are holding price of btc down longer and lower. why should we accept this and just wait? why not declare war on every shitcoin?

That might be fun, I used to do that once in a while and look through the list and call out the outright scams. I would be fun to see an invasion of hats hit the scam threads.

The WO Brigade to the rescue!

Wow 30K on your teeth and that done in mexico (probably not mexico)

your taking some diamond teeth in there bro?

Not diamond but close... cubic zirconia.

Fucking hell Jimbo, what are your teeth costing you altogether?
You could have had a full set of porcelain veneer's for about £4000 at The Dental Centre -Turkey.

I'm getting the deluxe job, full Hollywood.

When I got the rest of my own teeth removed over a year ago, I got extensive bone foundation work done including double sinus lifts, a dozen bone grafts and enriched platelet injections.

In November I got 16 titanium implants, the maximum I could get without weakening the bone structure.

In May I'll be getting solid zirconia teeth permanently installed with enhanced gum lines to compensate for receding gums over the years. This will allow for my natural bite without unnaturally longer teeth.

I could have saved a lot of money with cheaper options. They quoted me about $6000CAD for the extractions, 8 implants and attached full upper and lower plates, with no bone work. The plates would require maintenance though, needing to be removed every couple of years for cleaning.
I also would be risking future complications without the foundation work. I'm in my 70s and while my bones are strong for my age due to an active lifestyle, I have to be realistic.

This is something I wanted for years but couldn't afford (I was quoted $55k for 4 implants and 2 plates 15 years ago) until Bitcoin rewarded me for identifying its potential and putting my money where my belief was. People asked me when I'd cash out and I told them never. I said I'd spend somewhat more than my total fiat investment to buy myself some new teeth when I became a Bitcoin millionaire. That happened in 2017.

Now I'm still in my early 70s, having a teenage romance with my pretty (and sharp as a tack) 43-year old girlfriend, and living happily ever after.

Thank you Bitcoin.

Wow, I've been doing it wrong for all of these years.  Cheesy Buying hash at nicehash to mine shitcoins didn't work out too well for me. I did wear a few sigs back in 2015/2016. But I dumped the yobit sig for some bounty campaign, not a smart move. Then when I was done with that, I didn't want to enter sig campaigns because many wanted you to post in sections that I have zero interest in and to change your avatar. I miss my hat already. But I'll get over it.

We have seen a couple of these cycles where the tide begins to shift roughly a year before block reward halving dates. Inflection points occurred 376 and 320 days prior to the 2012 and 2016 “halvings”, respectively. Next halving is expected May 24, 2020

Its crazy sig campaigns can earn people that much. Back in 2012 I made about 1 BTC over the course of the year just doing those free daily bitcoin sites where you had to solve a captcha to get like 0.0015 BTC every couple hours.
