The Future of Payments: Series 2
Part II. When digital currencies become mainstream.pdf
Part III. Bitcoins: Can the Tinkerbell Effect Become a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy?.pdf

TDLR
Quote
Facebook plans to launch Libra 2.0 in early 2021. Facebook’s strategy has shifted toward more
emphasis on cheapening payments. Libra has tweaked its plan by “offering single-currency stablecoins in addition to the multicurrency coin.”

Medium             Transactions per second
China CBDC      300000
Facebook Libra  80000
Visa                  65000
Mastercard        45000
Ripple               1700
Bitcoin               7

a CBDC has a high potential to disintermediate the banking system.People might choose to hold their money directly at the central bank. Obviously, this would disrupt legacy bank franchises and impact financial stability. Credit card volumes, interchange fees, payment transaction fees, and deposit interest margins could be seriously affected. This would shake the current two-tier system

...
Bitcoin’s market cap of $1 trillion, and scope for a continued rise in prices, makes it too important to ignore.

Why are some Bitcoiners getting bent out of shape about this?  Just because NFTs run on generalized smart-contract chains,0 which Bitcoin is not?

To put it simply: in the crypto community, there seems to be this prevalent attitude that anything and everything crypto-born is absolutely fucking awesome and will change the world.

Well guess what, there was something absolutely fucking awesome created, one thing, and that was Bitcoin. It actually solved a problem with money that absolutely needed solving. And it will change the world.

Everything else is either a solution looking for a problem that doesn't exist, or isn't really a problem. 99.99% are just complete, straight up shitcoin scams.

NFTs are just the latest iteration of crypto scam-straction. They solve nothing that actually is a problem or needs fixing. They will eventually be relegated to the dustbin of history, along with shitcoins, ICOs, etc.

Was going to Google this NFT shite that I saw here constantly, no idea what it means, but thanks for explaining so I don't have to bother.

This dude almost had the same idea as me.

I was going to fart into a jar and sell it as an NFT.

You could do that, if you marketed it as Seastead Guy's Fart in a Bottle. It's all about marketing.

What I would do is make it more of a mystery where you are purchasing one of Seastead Guy's Bitcoin Bottles, but you don't know whether it contains a message of hope or a digital fart until after you purchase and open it.

This reminds me of the time back in my early childhood, when my brother placed a quarter in a jar, then
clandestinely farted in the jar (unbeknownst to me), and put the lid on.
He then handed me the jar and bet me the quarter I couldn’t get the lid off and read the year of the coin on bottom of jar in under ten seconds.
I ended up with the lousy quarter and a face full of fecal fragrant flatulence.
My brother, otoh, got a good laugh.   Stinky bastard.....

Must avoid false confirmation:

Option for “slacks”?  What is this cross-dressing transvestite shit?  You modern liberals are disgusting.

The mother is always the greatest influence on the development of a child’s character.

That’s not feminist stuff.  Even Napoleon said so; and he was so much not-a-feminist that he banned women from wearing pants in public within the city of Paris, on pain of arrest by the police.  (That law was repealed in 2013, when feminists realized it was still on the books and screamed bloody murder.  Napoleon’s own mother, by the way, was of such a famously forceful character that Nietzsche later cited her as an example of “the most powerful and influential women in the world” (Beyond Good and Evil, Aphorism 239).  And she raised a son who conquered the Continent...)

Thanks for providing that link.

Interestingly if you go to the "My Portfolio" tab and enter :"A portfolio with consistent growth of 200%" which is the historical BTC CAGR according to https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-s-compound-annual-growth-is-an-unheard-of-200-cagr, then anyone with a few BTC can retire right now ...  Wink

I don't know how they arrivied at that crazy 200% estimate... Probably included irrelevant early years.

It's more like 100%. It approximately doubles every year. Not triples.

You are the man, bro.

Glad my monthly buy for March was filled around 49K.

My rule is: set a day, set a price, buy and forget.

Until necessary.

I was reviewing my PayPal btc purchases and paper profits.

wife's account >>>>>>   $257.56  is now $467.25
my personal account >>  $125.00 is now  $444.55
my business account >>  $730.02 is now  $1364.55

totals >>>>>>>>>>> $1112.58 is now  $2276.35

The plan was to never cash these just add to them now and then.
So far no coins are cashed out.
I know no keys not your coins.
I have other wallets with keys.
This was simply a mainstream investment. Starting in Oct of 2020 and  using various deposit amount at various times.
Not bad for simply supporting a mainstream BTC investment.

first buy was below

So here goes.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still consolidating in preparation for an ATH... currently $58253USD/$72835CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Hopefully this won't last long. I'm about halfway through buying enough dollars to pay for our lake. I'm DCAing but a nice price boost would be welcome.

Go Bitcoin go.

Seems like 60k is the new 9000.

And, no, no fracking vegeta memes!

For what? A week now?

$9k lasted several months.

Vegeta memes? Ancient history. I'm more worried about 56k modem memes.

Personally I'm looking forward to the Woodrow memes:

Bank of New York Mellon Invests in Crypto Startup.

Quote
Bank of New York Mellon Corp is investing in a cryptocurrency startup, the latest move by a traditional Wall Street player to embrace digital assets.

The startup, Fireblocks, builds tools for the secure storage and transfer of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. BNY Mellon plans to use Fireblocks’s technology to underpin a new business that the bank unveiled last month, in which it plans to serve as a custodian for digital assets on behalf of institutional investors.

Doesn't sound appealing, what they actually mean by "custodian for digital assets".

Probably just a re-branded core wallet on air-gapped machines sold for 20X over cost.

I just did something similar but used a brand new Amazon Fire 7 tablet, factory reset it and took out everything else, disabled all other apps using Fire Toolbox, and sideloaded Electrum on it. Encrypted it too.

Fire 7 = about $50 (less if on sale or promotion)
Electrum = free
Time to set up = less than 1 hour.

It works together with a watch-only wallet, I construct the transactions on the desktop wallet, scan the QR code to the Fire tablet, sign the tx, then broadcast it from a phone.

Here is a favorite calculator to play with: https://firecalc.com/

The default values there imply a 95% success rate starting with $750k and withdrawing $30k per year for 30 years.

Wink

That would imply you already have $750k worth of BTC and withdrawing around $30k per year, and as long as the "consistent" growth is above 8% then you'll be okay.

Which kinda makes sense. If you don't have maybe at least 15 BTC (fudge margin error buffer added), and you can't live on $30k per year, don't retire just yet.
