Several (non headline) articles I've read suggest that this Omicron carry on most likely has less severe symptoms.

Perhaps when the panic of politicians and hyper propaganda media dies off and some sense of using a few brain cells re-appears in the next few days markets including BTC will recover heavily.

... it's even better than that, the hospitalisation rates (none so far with >4000 cases) and symptoms (side effects) sound safer than getting the jab

I’m delighted to report that my furnace was fixed yesterday - not by me, but after taking advice from several good fellows here, I decided it was a job for an electrician (there’s no point being a btc hodler if you’re going to fry yourself into an early grave and never reap the rewards, I thought).

It seems that all three relays had blown. In fact, it may have been functioning with just one working relay, meaning that it may have only been working at one-third of its potential power for some time, unknown to me.

I quizzed the electrician about why this might have happened - he thought it was likely to be because of the age of the system, the wires becoming more and more brittle over time, especially considering that they’re taking a large load and are frequently turned on/off by a thermostat.

I also wondered why there had been no blown fuse. There is no fuse at all in this system - the electrician said that  he wouldn’t expect there to be and that if there is an overload or short, then the relays would simply fail (I may not be explaining this bit properly). I thought this was a little strange but another acquaintance (a distant, retired relative) agreed with this. I’m still not totally convinced, but what do I know….

Since having the furnace repaired, I am thoroughly enjoying being warm again. However, in the last 24 hours:

(tl;dr My furnace is fixed and now loads of other things have broken. Much love to the WO).

... weird but stories like these give me the warm fuzzies Smiley

... for purely academic interest did the electrician replace any wiring or just the relays?

... and if he replaced wiring did he put in bigger gauge?, i.e. thicker wires?

... strange that there's no separate fuses for the heating system but it is true that for big loads sometimes they just rely on the mains fuses or pole fuses further back upstream I guess.

On-Chain Analysis: Long-Term Holders Start Selling – Bitcoin Ready for Surge

https://beincrypto.com/on-chain-analysis-long-term-holders-start-selling-bitcoin-ready-for-surge/

 I like this part:

"The Long-Term Holder Net Position Change indicator measures the change in Bitcoin supply that remains in the hands of long-term holders (LTH). These are those addresses that hold BTC for at least 155 days (about 5 months)."

5 months makes a long-term holder???  I wonder what that makes most of us?

Indeed, if there is no fuse, crap will fail. That's kinda the point of the fuse. More specifically, it'll help protect the wiring which may be running through walls, behind plaster, etc.

Even if the relays would fail from the excess current (which doesn't sound like a good measure to me, considering the collateral damage that may ensue), there's the real possibility that the relay manufacturer could change the production method and they could function well beyond their rated capacity (they are not a safety device).

Now, it may be custom in your location that these things are not supplied with a fuse or breaker but it wouldn't be the first time bad practices become custom.

I guess I’ll just have to join the throw-away culture which I hate so much

It's annoying. The internet has made it incredibly easy to find parts these days but it seems manufacturers are discontinuing parts at an accelerating rate. A couple of months ago it was the hinges on my oven (I was finally able to locate compatible parts at not-cheap prices), last month it was my relatively new electric chainsaw (wear part) - ended up buying a new one. Now, my steam cleaner hose has a hole in it. I'm going for a repair on that one since I have had no luck at all locating the part.

My internet will be cut tomorrow.
The phone company is from January first no longer using the copper wires (land line) and I have land line ADSL
internet.
I have ordered fiber but it may take 6 to 12 months before they can get their asses out here and dig a cable to my house, on the other hand I only had to pay 9900 SEK for it. My neighbors who got cable when it was first installed some years ago in the area had to pay 32000 sek.
So I will be mostly using my laptop and free wifi spots in town to go online. I will try to use my phone as a wifi hot spot, but I don't know how well that will work.
The phone company tried to install a solution using a antenna and the mobile phone masts, but they couldn't get a strong enough signal.
So, I'll be on here more sporadically for a while i think, depending on how well the phone wifi solution works.

The good news is, WO is pretty low bandwidth, not least because Theymos has all-but abandoned the site and we're stuck in 2011.

Sorry, just checked the bottom of the page. That's 2009.

For those discussing about COVID-19, vaccines, etc., I've just posted something relevant in the other thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5362774.msg58546196#msg58546196

Real case, involving some of my dearest relatives. Read it if you like. Take it as you will.

Sorry to hear about this. But also wondering, are there any other hat-only threads I should be aware of? I only just became aware of that one. I don't want to risk getting hat-related threadlessness fomo.
